I know an eye for an eye is not answer but sometimes it does solace the grieving heart but then again a wrong is a wrong. If you think a son should not pay for his fathers wrongs than its not true coz he does inherit the dads name and money and everything that goes with it so even after generations the hate and the differences exist i can see it being justified.
Did the Brits do some very evil things in the past? Absolutely. Are they responsible for the partition? Yeah, they played some dirty games. But we're equally responsible for our stupidity in falling for those. Secondly, had the partition not happened, its wishful thinking that all Indians regardless of religion would've lived in perfect harmony. We know better than that.
Besides, there is no resolution to the tit for tat patttern of thinking, its a never-ending game where no-one wins.
Take blacks in America for example. They have a LOT to be mad about, don't they? And there are those who still blame the "white man" for everything. Everything from welfare, drugs, guns etc etc. is linked to the injustices their forefathers faced. And then there are those who have moved on and become doctors, lawyers, entertainers etc etc. You won't hear a Michael Jordan bitching about how da white man bring me down. They've moved on.
What about Jews? Remember the holocaust? They picked up the pieces after that, their kids got the right edcuation and they're one of the most affluent community in the states. What if they had gone the "let's blame the nazis for all our problems route?"
History is ridden with wrongdoings. I don't see the point in bringing up the past over and over again. And it sure as hell is no justification for the violence of the present.

If we are going to forget the past, then we should maybe forget 911 too.
And yes the london bombings, 'cos it haappened all of 20+ days ago....
See how ridiculous it sounds....basically if a group of people think that there is a historical reason fo their situation, they will go back to it, whether it happened yesterday or 2000 years ago.
Again, I am not saying they should or shouldnt , but what actually happens in the real world.

Yeah, but I don't see any training schools for terrorists coming up to go blow up inoocent people in Saudi, where most of the 911 terrorists were from. And despite 911 there are hundreds of thousands of muslims still living in the states. And thousands of new immigrants pour in, things get invented, discoveries are made, commerce flows and life goes on. People still have a choice on how to dress and what religion to follow.
You won't hear the common man whinng about how 911 is responsible for all their problems. People have moved on. In terms of mentality of the population, yours is an apples to oranges comparison.

The govt is representative of the people here, so the common man does not need to whine all the time. So America invaded Iraq, this seems to be what the majority wants. The govt acts on behalf of majority of the people. And we all know how much power they have to act.
But they still do complain. They do it all the time....911 this...Arabs that...thats human nature. Whether the opposing side sees it as whine or bitch or whatever...is well upto them.
In Mid east the govt is not representative of the people, something that they may have tried to change but met with stiff resistance..thanks is no small measure to covert and overt western support (which we have determined above is based on self interest). the govt actually acts against the wishes of the majority. (actually you can put Britain in that group too now, since majority before and even after are against the iraq war.)
Apples, oranges, whatever...
