Not that I did not want to write in details about how my article and posts have been misunderstood by ptm and some others, but a few things prevented me from doing so in last two days:
1. BL’s post signifying that it had stretched too far unnecessarily so we should put and end to it – however, since it still continues and at a greater pace then before, I feel that if I do not write now, I might again be misunderstood for not standing upto my comments that I have made.
2. Sheer lack of time – yes these three part times jobs are keeping me extremely busy, so much so that I have not been able to report for 3 weeks at another part time (once a week) job that I have!
3. Call it what you may – but something that I wrote in zest, turned out to be very scary for me. I wrote that bad omen thing and that happened to be again the first thing I did that day after sitting at my desk – and I told myself – what the hell! And you guys might be surprised (and some amazed) to know that sometime later, on my way to office, I was ticketed for speeding! Driving at 70 on a major street like Maj Makenzie – imagine! Why? Because that particular area was a 50km zone. Anyone heard of anyone getting speeding ticket on a major road for driving at 65 (that’s what he put on the ticket)? And I can swear I was not above 65, what to say of 70 but no use appealing since there are not points. The traffic guy had the cheek to say that since his chief asked, they are going to issue 1000 speeding tickets during this month. Well, the first time I write first thing to ptm, my son gets into a very minor accident giving me a major problem since the guy is toughie and wants to report to insurance, the second time I write to ptm, I unnecessarily get ticketed. Won’t you say writing to ptm first thing in the morning has been bad for ME?!
4. The way ptm had originally written his posts, it was nothing else but something like blaming me for doing a horrendous crime writing something bad about Canada and misleading the intending immigrants – and he seemed nothing short of interrogating me why I did this and that I should immediately remove my post (as if I put a special link on the home page). Not on a single occasion he said what exactly was contradictory and what he thinks should be a right impression about Canada.
However, his last post is much sober and though still he has been very general (and in my view, wrong), I am writing down my thoughts and why neither my article nor posts reflect what he has (mis)understood.
His topic of this thread says change of heart – yes there is change of heart, but not about my views about Canada based on my personal experiences and knowledge, but change of heart only in expressing myself.
I do not know who this relatively new member desi4u2nv is – but seems he is someone who knows me intimately and could almost read my thoughts – though I have not discussed this thread with anyone at all. He has beautifully put forward my thoughts and I couldn’t have done a better job.
To reinforce:
1. Can ptm tell me where the contradiction is? Let’s take an example:
If I say these two things about a road – a) XYZ street is usually not crowded and driving there is a breeze and by taking that road, I cut my travel time by 10 minutes. Isn’t this saying something good about the road? b) XYZ street is the dirties street I have seen with garbage on both sides of the road which smells a lot. Now that is a bad thing about that road. But are they contradictory? No not atall. Both can be co-existent.
However, if I say these two things about a person, say Aishwarya Rai – a) she is the most beautiful girl I have seen and b) she is so thin and skinny – almost sick looking – then they are contradictions.
So my question is – where is the contradiction? Canada has some bad things and some good things and both are co-existing.
2. When I wrote that article, I had two things in mind – first a comparison to where I came from which is Singapore/Indonesia and secondly, all I said in that article was that I keep hearing people making complains about Canada and do nothing about it because most of us are very weak to bring about a change, specially in a foreign land. What I therefore wrote was that we all know that Canada has all these problems and I am therefore taking a decision to leave Canada, because I choose not to live that life, and therefore was telling the reader that if he does not like Canada, he should not crib about it, but just leave. However, if his aspirations are different and that can be fulfilled only by being in Canada, stop cribbing about Canada. To me, at that time, life with all those bad things about Canada were not acceptable to me.
3. The good things I have written about Canada – are clearly written as good when compared to India. The very same things do not hold much water when compared to life in Singapore (clean air, 24 hrs water/electricity supply, good trolleys, air-conditioned buses, good government offices, no pan-ki-peek, no visible eve-teasing, etc. etc.) I was getting all that and much more in Singapore.
Moreover, the same Canada, in my view, can be good for someone I know, and bad for some other perosn I know. I have a few cousins whom I have told that migrating to Canada will be the best thing they can do - at the same time, I have some nephews and nieces, who hold great jobs in India (making 30-35 lacs family income) whom I have told that they would do a blunder if they came to Canada to live.
4. The things that are very bad in Canada as per my article, still exist and I hold the same view. I still find the medical system lousy (as near as my visit three days ago to the doctor for my neck pain – but won’t go into details), the education funding lacking, racism being blatant (the other day when I was ticketed, after dealing with me, he stopped two more cars going in parallel lanes at same speed – I watched them very closely since I was waiting in the land inside and minutely observing the policeman’s action – both the cars stopped on his signal – he asked the Chinese guy to stay and let the white young lady go away!!!), crime is common and nowadays and everyday affair if you read the newspapers, etc. etc.
5. Someone had remarked in another thread on CD – when you assume, you make an ASS of U and ME. The readers of my article assumed that I went back to India in 2003. Sorry guys, I did not go back to India but had gone to Indonesia where I had come to Canada from. And I did go back with a great job with a big group as GM Finance which would have not only given me great job satisfaction, but paid me enough to be able live lavishly and still save substantial (atleast 50k pa). But due to some important family decisions that we took, I came back to Canada – neither with a hope, nor with any joy. And since then I am spending from my savings – still fighting hard to get a full time permanent job!
6. Personally, I have failed in Canada, and I have made a compromise with my life. You have to realize that there are three things one can do in any situation which he does not like – reject it, accept it, or crib about it. My advise to everyone is if you are strong enough, do reject it and make a way for yourself, but if not, accept it the soonest you can. Accepting it will not make you happy, but may be make you content and less tense. So my dear ptm, my perceptions have not changed – I still hate Canada for what it has done to me – but for some personal reasons, which are more logical then sentimental or emotional (and in no way economical), which I do not mind sharing with anyone in person, but net is perhaps not the right place (I have learned thru experience), I have made compromises and continue to live and fight for each day’s bread! Canada definitely is not the place for a well placed professional in his country - as basic and simple as that.

It wouldn't be either. All those articles published in magazines critical of the government are slander or libel, are they?

I don't agree with you, Chandreshji.
First of all, are you going to blame every misfortune on someone who disagrees with you or questions you, and that too in a forum? If someone called me a bad omen, I would be very much offended. What does poor PTM have to do with your son's accident or your speeding ticket?
I don't think PTM was wrong when he first raised this issue. Maybe he was wrong in being persistent, quoting so many of your posts, but the original question was valid. He merely wanted to know if it was the same Chandresh, and if so, what happened, as he was probably trying to relate to his own experience, since he himself gave up and returned to India. I don't see him blaming you as if you committed some horrendous crime.
I also disagree with your response implying that he (and others) were not intelligent enough to understand the true meaning of the article.
When you say so strongly in an article that you're leaving the country without even bothering to get a citizenship, and you're still here, people will ask questions. What else do you expect in a forum? If you didn't want to answer it, that is ok.
Some time back when this person named Interceptor said he was leaving for India for good, and then resurfaced in another post, enquiring about a certain job in GTA giving some explanation, no one, not even BL bought his story. Remember?
I'm sorry if I sounded hard, but just felt like saying something, especially after the bad omen comment. I really hope everything gets resolved for you very quickly.
I will bow out since this thread has now become more like WWF ring!

You still have not answered a very simple and basic question - where is the contradiction?? May be then I too will understand that you have a valid point like the other enlightened members of this discussion.
Or it it that you are not able to find any?
