After coming to Canada the biggest surprise for me is ... One of my buddy at work ( From Iran ) asked me few informative questions on Hinduism and Indian history.. I was able to reply one or two but truely I wasn't aware of indepth for those stuff..
I asked the same thing to my friends and parents, surprisingly none of them seems to know much about the Hinduism and Indian history.
I can't tell for everybody but that's the reality what I have faced in real world that being a hindu and Indian does not know much about the Hinduism.
Here I need your help guys...
If any body have a idea how can we get the quick information please post it. It would be great for the next generation as well.
To the admin....
How is that if we have \"\"HINDUISM\"\"\" forum for open discussion.

Cheers!!!!!!!
i can understand that. in india bad people of politics have changed meaning of hindusiam. if u believe in shiv then join shivsena. if u believe in hanuman then join bajrangdal.. are they really following the laws of hindusiam?? big Q to all. be nuteral 4 a secound n think about it!! they made hard 4 the ppl to understand the true things of relagion. furthermore bad politicians are always ready to take advantag of this..
so if u want to learn more about hindusium dont ask anybody try to learn on your own...read books n webs..
To me hinduism is one of the most successful cultures in the history of human civilization. One of the most tolerant cultures too (politics not withstanding ). I call it a culture because it is more a way of life than a religion.
But what do i know anyway?
What exactly were the questions asked of you? Maybe someone here can answer.
For more general info.

Most of Canadians knows about hinduism, but not the way you are thinking about. They might be negative about it.
The common questions I think are:
Why do you have multiple gods?
Why you do idol worshiping?
What is tilak - is it just decoration or something else?
Why do you have CASTE system?
While answers of above questions can have pages, canadiandesi might not be proper forum for that. Or may be it is. Since this is related with desis. Members, please give your opinions.
The SHAME part of our (late) culture is (was) untouchability, and we should not hesitate to accept our apology and at the same time explain that that is now part of history and we forgot that. Also tell them that it wasn't there in vedic period but some how came to culture after 10th century. There are millions of educated lower caste people integrating with main stream. Talk of Gandhi. Talk about Latre Shree Pandurang Shastri and many more.
I respect Jack3D's reply. Whatever he has said is absolutely right. It is more of a culture than a religion. Unlike other religion, there is no single founder of it. If the culture is developed and evolved without any external interference for human betterment, whatever you get is Hinduism.
We have many more knowledgble members on this board. Let us wait for their responces.
Meanwhile http://www.hindunet.org should have good resouces.
