Dear Rajan,
computer sales business is not very rosy in india. i personally know many persons who are in this field since last 10-15 years and still earning moderate income like 20-30 k . Also some of my known persons left the field after trying for 3-4 years. too much competion in this line.
things are looking rosy in india from canada.
similarly insurence sector is not easy . agents have to pay 50% of first year premium as commission. I am not discouraging you as i myself came back to india after trying a lot in canada.but i have no hesitation in admitting that still i like the life as a whole in canada though settling process is very difficult; but i personally feel that settling struggle is worth of it. i am living in Delhi and having reasonable income here but considering pathetic living conditions , i think there is no comparison between canada and india. yes it is true people are earning lot of money here but that is very small segment .
you must be aware with the mass demolition of commercial premises in residential localities. first they allow the construction by taking bribes then they come for demolition. almost more than 80% of the population have more or less illegal ( violation of building bye-laws) .
Here in delhi we were eagerly awaiting for introduction of metro trains. but believe me i hardly found any seat to sit.public transport system is really in shambles. for cars there is hardly any parking. i still recollect my experience of travelling in buses or trains and toronto and found that we can never compete with them here in india. persons who are having lucretive government jobs and settled businessmen who are earning big money by byepassing the laws and the politicians are the only class which is florishing.
women cannot think to move after 10 pm even in her own localty whereas in canada i saw them freely and securely moving late in nights.
property rates are sky rocketing. one year before a MIG flats was costing around 20lacs which is now available for more than 40lacs. from where one can get such big money .
I understand lot of my immigrant friends may not be agree with me. but i again state this is my personal opinion about coming back to india.
any way decision to come back to india is quite difficult and i think you have taken all pros and cons well in consideration.

Ptm,
Are you telling that computer sales people are earning 20-30K a month or a year? if it is 20-30K a month, it is a very good salary.
Recently i was in India for 2 weeks. I was in a small Town. I did not find the system in a total mess like you said. Who is going to use public transport? we will use Auto or 2 wheeler if we donot like standing in public transport. And what about in Canada, you have to stand anyway during peak hours.
I am not telling Rajan to go back to india or to stay here in Canada but PTM, you present a picture as if life is Hell in India which i donot agree.
Yes. i do agree about the inflation, over population, bribe, houses having bombay style lavatory but that is what we grew up with and we are proud. What is the use of living in a palace if there are no proper jobs in canada, no peace of mind due to that and long working hours? My house in Toronto with all it furniture is in a worse state than my father's house in a small town. My flooring in toronto is coming off while we have high quality tile floor in india, My taps in Toronto are leaking while my taps in India are high quality finish and water tight.
PTM, you have to realise that for some people life in India (with all its faults) is better than living here.
When i was in india, i visited b'lore. The city was so nice with all facilities, new restaurants, good hotels and office complexes etc... If you get a good job there (it is easier to get a good job there rather than finding one here) , you can lead a better life than in Canada.
PTM, wake up. Go and see the latest buildings, restaurants, stadiums, office buildings in New Delhi... Please donot spread wrong impression.
You too a wise decision of returning back to India. It was a correct one. Enjoy it.
TK
Side note :
And PTM, Medical facilities and the climate in India CAN NEVER be compared to Canadian Standards.

You were talking of having a good quality of life in Bangalore but I don't think you truly realize the cost of living here. Having been here the past few years I have seen costs multiply exponentially. Of course, if you were lucky yo have your salary rise commensurately then it's not too much of a problem.

New Year's eve parties last year were charging Rs 4000 and up at the top clubs (i know you might think these places immoral and corrupting but just an example).

Of course if one is content with eating curd rice at the neighbourhood Shanti Sagar then it's not a problem.

Many cities in India are not able to keep pace with the expansion. This affects the common citizen (ie you and me) because commute times to the office double, roads crumble, electricity cuts, property prices sky rocket etc etc. So there are a few 'problems' associated with the rising Indian economy.

Dear TK,
I am not saying india is a hell. i cannot even think so. i was just commenting about the Rajan's decision to come back.
you are saying my friend 20-30 k monthly salary is good . no , not at all .
in that salary you are not able to live a decent life. considering the cost of living i.e. grocery, electricity , telephone , school fees and rental of house, maintenance cost of car , i dont think you will be able to save any thing , forget about buying a house.
offcourse if one is having own house then in 20-30k , he will be able to lead a reasonable good life in india.
yeah so far medical facilites are concerned india is a far better place.by paying Rs. 200 you can visit a specialised doctor.
so far climate is concerned i think it is more or less at par in both the countries. in canada most of year it is severe cold and in india most of year it is scorching heat and dust.

you have stated in canada there are no proper jobs and no peace of mind.
friend jobs are not served in plate here as well as . though since we are locally educated and well versed in the system here , we found it relatively easier to get a job here. and in canada right from the first day we start looking a job matching our qualification and experience and that too without updating our education. we do not want to part our funds towards settlement process.
In my case i am 40plus,having professional practice and a resonable settled life. i visited canada many times and that on one way tickets. actually i went there alone leaving my family in india. purpose was to first settle myself and then call family.
there i tried lot to get a accounting job but soon i realised that without getting a canadian qualification that is not easy. i always missed my family .
i took my own decision and found that for a person of my age and having somewhat settled work in india it is not easier to start in canada afresh.
but if a 25 or 30 years old person asks me about settling in canada , i will always advise him to immigrate at earliest.
you advised me to visit latest buildings, restaurents, stadiums and other office buildings.
Dear TK i am regularly going to income tax, sales tax, service tax and other departments. there is nothing special except jostling crowds.
yeah i visted ferojshah kotla ground for a cricket match between india and srilanka recently and believe me it was in real bad shape.

friend grass always looks greener on other side. thats it.

ptm

yeah , i am happy that i came back to india. it may have certain problems but as you said , it is our own country . we have grown up here.

Hey Alex,
I am not comparing the life of an IT professional who earns rs.40-60K a month in india and the same persons who gets around usd 80K a year in USA or Canada.
I am comparing the life of Architects, Engineers, Chartered Accountants who were in Top professional jobs in india and are doing either entry level jobs in Canada or Labour jobs.
The second level of people only are comtemplating to return to India .
(FYI-> my wife falls in the first catagory and even she feels that life is better in B'lore. He co-worker in GE b'lore got 80K just as performance bonus this year and my wife really feels that she is swindled in Canada)

PTM,
You are really confused. Try reading all your posts from day one.
As DIO said in one of his posts, you are in India but thinking that you might have missed an oppertunity in one of the greatest countries of the world ( in your case Canada).
My friend, It is not that rosy here esp. for NON -IT people and that is the truth. Even if you are in your 25's armed with a IIT civil engg job, you will have to be a labourer for most part of life here. That is the truth. There is no denying of the truth. Even if you get yourself upgraded in education, your brown color is still here. I donot want to say any more than this b'cos it may offend most people in this forum.
Rajan has taken a decision mainly due to personal reasons and not due to professional reasons and hence there is no reason why we should give him advise.
Since i am an an architect, i have visited delhi and know most of the bldgs construsted in the 90's and before like Asiad village, Jantar mantar, Qutub Minar, Lotus/bahai temple, LIC bldg., Palika Bazzar, Rashtrapathi Bhavan, N Science centre, Exhibition place,CP structures. Those bldgs. are all some of the best in the world. Even Toronto canot stand beside those bldgs./Structure.
