MR,
Thanks for your mail. This is just my personal experience that i am writing.
Even though i am in aprofessional office, i am way down in terms of my professional skills utilisation. I work as just a draftsman doing house. Prior to this i was handling 5 * hotels, office buildings etc.. and i had 10 people working under me. My pay is also just above 10-11$ an hour which is pathetic and the most insulting thing is that we have to pick the office garbage every friday and dump it in the garbage can 100m from the office. In other places we had peon to do this but in canada? yes. at home i clean myself but i can never forget the insult of having to get rid of office garbage.
That is why i have a problem with Canada. Jobs are not easy to get here. I have been sending resumes for over 3 years now but without any sucess

sidenote : Yes. we all know that it is illegal to work 72 hrs a week but what will happen if i complain. I am working as a consultant and if i complain i will have to leave the job. Even if i am on payroll, then the ESA can do nothing except to put me on EI if i quit due to this . The canadian govt. supports employers as they employ employees.
Due to a girl in my office who complained , our boss has promised taht he will give us overtime after 44 hours and 1:1 salary. We get paid for 37.5 hours a week and we work from 37.5 hrs. to 44 hours free. we are going to sign the agreement (all 10 of us in the office) today over office lunch.
Yes. we know it is illegal but if the Canadian govt. is willing to pay me $10K if i expose this, then i am willing to expose it to the government.

Hey TK,
As far as working conditions go, I feel for you. Have you considered moving to a smaller city where your skills might be used? To me, Toronto and GTA seems to be just chaotically overcrowded.
I really don't know your educational and work experience background and wouldn't know what to tell you even if you told me. But, if relocation within ON would provide you with better working life, why not try it?
Best of luck.
p.s don't let throwing office garbage get to you. In the scheme of things, that's the least you need to be worried about.

TK,
Even I have been dumping office garbage. It is a way of life here. Infact, my wife has even cleaned tables, done dishes & washed toilets (men & ladies both) as part of her job at Tim Hortons.
If we can get good jobs, then it is a small thing. Problem is of getting decent jobs.

Dimple,
thanks for your encouraging mail
I am in architecture with a degree in it.
Smaller towns offer no jobs for this profession. My wife works around toronto and hence i am stuck around this area.
The only jobs are in the housing industry or where AutoCAD is used. Jobs are hard to come by.
I am glad that i am in a better position than all Architecture related CD's in Canada. I talked to some of them and the situation is pretty depressing. TK
