Did you ever try "efax" ?
I am using that and no junk faxes. all faxes come to your email. and lots of features like you can convert them into pdfs etc. And you can fax documents from your machine directly.
In case you are interested sign up for the "Free" efax number (with this you can only receive faxes). but you will know the use of it.

I don't see an option of "free" incoming fax.

If you register / sign up for an efax account, by default all incoming faxes are FREE.

In fact as with the case of land line faxes all inicoming faxes are FREE anywhere.

So;
If you registerd for a FREE efax account - then you can "only" receive faxes.
If you regsiter for a paid account then you can SEND and RECIEVE faxes .

Note: efax will deliver "incoming faxes" to your "email address" you
provided at the time of registration.

But when you send faxes (only with a paid account), you can send
it to normal fax machines as well.

Go here to see the Free link.

I registered for the free account. They allot you a US number. To get a choice of area code, you have to subscribe to the paid service.

No, that is not correct, when you clck on the sign up link in my previous post it will take you to a page where you have to first pick your country where you want the number.

When I first signed up for a free account , I got a numbet of Montreal. canada.
And from Jan'06 I have upgraded it to a full account.

So you may try again.
