SS - can you guide how to by pass the PC in case of Magic Jack as keeping a PC dedicated may be a head ache ... ( mine has fan noise ) .

Freephoneline I believe is one time cost and no annual payments like MJ .... I do not call US quite often and can use another service / provider for that ...

I am also considering a Bell Agent who had advertised $40 - 45 / month (for first year and no contract ) for 2mbps internet plus a home phone with 2 features ..... This might be cheaper than having .

a. Internet for $35/- from Acanac / Freephoneline .
b. $9 for dry loop .
c. Set up costs .... ( in case of freephoneline $300/- ) ...

Go for ACANAC cable internet will cost u 36$ a month, but no dry loop charge and u can have unlimited download + about 20 mb download speed.,

I do have ACANAC cable internet and freephoneline .ca home phone with
ATA which connect to my router.

There are many Magicjack forums and Magicjack utilities which you can find via Google. Basically you would need a utility to get SIP information that you can put in your ATA. It is against their terms of service though. I do not have Magicjack, so I cannot comment which one works.

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone here use Vonage and any feedback on their "unlimited" plan for US/India? (I know there's a fair usage cap of 3000 minutes, but I can live with that).

They're offering to
1. Port over existing phone # (very important for me)
2. Unlimited calling to Canada/India/US + some other countries (first 3 months. at 19.99, after than 29.99)
3. Features like VM, caller ID, call waiting etc. included in above rate

Seems like a pretty good deal. Are there any catches?

I am using vonage for over two years and am very happy with the services . I never saw any hidden charges .
Best feature I like is that you can dial India overseas through any no. if you have access to net ( by enabling web based call forwarding ) .
Overall very satisfied
Good Luck
AG

Edit : See if you can give ref to any of your friend who is an existing cx . He will receive two months free and you will receive one month free services

Thanks for the good feedback, Ashwani - this helps.

I signed up for a one month trial last week so don't think I can leverage the referral policy now, but will keep it in mind going forward.
