Given that one has the experience & other skills required for the job, do you think customer service is so difficult a skill that it cannot be acquired? All companies do have orientation & training sessions in which these things can be taught.

Whenever one changes a job in India or even in Canada or say a person working in India gets a job in the Gulf or a person goes to US on H1 visa, one has to learn new systems since each company has a different way of operating. Doesn't require a person to start his career all over again.

My point earlier, Morning rain, was that I know of people who have worked as a security guard or in a factory doing labour work after coming to Canada. Subsequently they have got a job in their original field of work. How does this security guard or snow shovelling job help him?

yesterday I came to know of a job in a bank where you have to seal the envelopes by licking them & for that you get paid $11 an hour whereas my retail sales job which definitely requires more skills used to pay me $8.5 per hour.
Rgds.

hi MR,
In India , there is a system of reservation for specific type of people who were discriminated from the society in earlier ages. Those discriminated people are given special previlages in Govt. employment , education, college/ mess fees concession etc... This has helped to uplift people from the discriminated class with a chance to be at par with uplifted people.
for example : An engineers son with 95% marks can get a govt. seat, where as a scavenger's son with 50% mark can get the same seat (provided the former is in uplifted class and the latter in down trodden class. This has really helped all indians to be equal. Now the only disadvantage is that it has come to a state where the children of all those who got jobs and education through the reservation system are now ready to be educated through that reservation system. So many legitimate persons donot get a chance to use this reservation system. It canot be changed due to political reasons (Similar to health care system of Canada. It is stretched to the limit. If the ruling party cuts the funding to the health care then it will not win the next election)
For your thought ->
imagine if the govt. of Canada put a rule that all jobs in the govt. which does not require a professional degree to be given to Aboriginals and that Gora's in those jobs need to find their own jobs in the private sector (which they can , since Canada has a lot of jobs for Gora's and it is easy for them to get jobs. It will just be hard work and lesser pay.)
In one generation, No aboriginal would be living the cold north. Everyone will be in govt. jobs and getting goog pay. Since they get good salary, they will educate their children well and the children will go to university with student loan and then they will get govt. jobs while their parents retire from their jobs. So the soceity will be at par.
Of course , what i have said above is just a joke. It is not and will not happen. I was just trying to explain my point.

I fully agree with you on this one. I have met some Englishmen who too complain about 'not having Canadian experience'. So this 'discrimination' - hope this is not too harsh a word, is not restricted based on the colour of your skin but more by the fact that you are an immigrant.

Similarly, cross cultural communication is a very interesting topic. Indian english seems to have its own slang..canadian english its own slang and even american english its own slang. British english has unique words and meanings. There is cross cultural communication happening when a british "gora" speaks to an american "gora".

I hope I did not convey that I assume all non-canadians are non professional. I know this through experience that this is in no way true. My goal is to contribute to this discussion.
Sure. Thank you.
