Here is a funny observation of mine having lived a life of expat in the Middle East :
In Dubai Arabs would prefer hiring or doing business with Arabs
In Dubai Lebaneese would prefer hiring or doing business with Lebaneese
In Dubai British would prefer hiring or doing business with British
In Dubai Pakistanis would prefer hiring or doing business with Pakistanis
And Indians
In Dubai Indians would prefer hiring or doing business with British,Lebaneese,Pakistanis and Arabs.
Is it the same in Canada?

I personally have experience of Indian helping other fellow indians in my field. In fact, I had a filipino colleague whose resume I passed on th Indian Project Manager responsible for staffing. Even though she was very qualified, he did not hire her for the project.
Interesting topic because it made me think about the employment equity policies of many companies and agencies.
The dilemma is: do I want to be hired because I am a visible minority or because I am qualified to do the job well?
Would you hire someone because you can share a common heritage or because this person is qualified, professional and can enhance your companies goals/mandate?
There was a study done in England a few years ago which analysed the punjabi and gujarati communities in england. The results were that though Punjabi's preferred to give their business to other punjabi's and they also socialized the most with punjabis, however they also mistrusted punjabi's and felt they would cheat their customers if given the opportunity. The gujarati's studied did not have any preference towards giving Indians / punjabis their exclusive business , preferred to keep mixed company (indians and non indians) and did not have the same trust issues.
This is not to critisize a particular group in India. Its just a human behavior/psychology observation.

This was not actual hiring but staffing people on the project. Though it has impact on your employment as if are not staffed consistently, then they try to get rid of you.
But unfortunately that is the reality. The project manager was US based. And he just decided not to hire her. All the technical team consisted of US based Indians. The bosses just find that working with Indian is beneficial to them as they can ask these to work for longer hours, on weekends to meet deadlines and get opposition from mainly locals. The client demands change at the 12th hour but you still have to meet deadlines.
This is the working in a Global Consulting company with operations all over the world. This is commonplace in global companies. Sometimes, your team consists of people from Chian and India. If you off-shore development is happening in China, you will find that many of the people working at the client site and are a go-between the clinet and chinese developers will be american/canadian chinese. If you project development i shappening in India, then the go-betweens would be Indians.
I have also observed that if the project manager from client side is Chinese, then the team lead or project manager from our company would be north american chinese and same goes for goras.
