My advice to desis is that in spite of arguments
- be polite
- donot do things cops can book you for, e.g. uttering threats like I will kill you
- if the cops do get involved, be professional and state the truth. The cops will know who is the culprit. I am speaking from experience
- Certain things like pointing finger etc is considered bad and certain establishments can call security and remove you from the premises though in our culture it is bad but not a terrible thing.

Ooh yea, I won't like cops getting into these matters. Cops get paid from our tax $s. Let them work on other high priority issues.

Why spend our tax $s on issus that you and me can easily avoid ?

High urgent issues like sitting at Tim Horton's and enjoying coffee and donuts. :D

If u ever require a cop don't call 911. keep the number of the closest Tim's. Ur sure to find 2-3 cops sitting in there. :D

Well you don't expect them to do their job on an empty stomache do you? ;)

I was not analysing the about incident but only enquiring as to who would be correct if Police were called in. If i was in that position and i knew that i could be wrong then i would prefer to keep my mouth shut than for the police to come and charge me.
Similar incidents have happened under my watchful eye. In another incident, a desi friend of mine had his car parking spot near a "Gora's" Basement window. This "Gora" was disturbed by the car starting at 6:30 am in the morning and so one day they got into an argument. The "Gora" said : Go back to your home country or change your parking spot" and the desi said "Who the hell are you to tell me to go back to my country or change to a new parking spot-complain to the super. and not to me". Luckily police were not called in.
It is better to know what to do in these situations.

It is against the law for someone to make racist comments. If you have a person targeting you with racial slurs, you can call the police and complain about harrasment. While the cops may be reluctant to book somebody just for spitting crap, my personal suggestion to you is to make sure you have enough witnesses to pressure the cops to arrest the person and not play the "nice and gentle desi" role as most of us are apt to play in such situations as this only encourages the other person to romp all over your butt the next time. If someone tries to hurt you with racism, hit back with the full extent of the law.

Desi Tiger,

You are right. It doesn't help to be meek and polite in this world. If someone has been hurt (and I don't mean physically) that person has every right to assert himself.

Canada as a civilized country has its laws to protect its visible minorities from racial attacks.
