Apna ghar jale to aag , auron ka jale to tamasha :)

I don't think the OP asked for moral advice .. Plus people sometimes get sentenced even when they have not committed a crime and some times get free even they have committed a crime .... and then there are others who do not get caught after committing a crime ...

Any ways to the OP

Do not pay the fine .. Ask for a Trial .

Read the website ticketcombat dot come at least 2 times ...it will bring you more awareness.

Towards the end ( I am assuming you are a South Indian) , when the final moment comes , ask for an interpreter .... I saw some one get away from DT Toronto court house just because there was not interpreter in the court for her language ...

The lady was not understanding anything but when the prosecutor said ' NO MONEY' , she smiled and repeated ' NO Money ' ...

IN moving offences like this one , fine is a small portion , the other major one is the increase in Insurance cost which comes later ... So always fight ... either ways , the Prosecutor offers you the best deal on the day of the trial.

In addition to what Fido mentioned above:

1. Read up the following site and understand the process.
http://www.ticketcombat.com/step1/step1.php

2. Read the discussions and advices provided here.
http://www.ontariohighwaytrafficact.com/

3. When you file for trial (this is called fighting the ticket) - you will be given option of early resolution - which essentially means that the city's laywer will call you in his office and offer you a deal of reduced ticket/fine/points. If you accept this deal, you waive the right to fight/trial and will be considered 'guilty' for record purposes - will reflect on your driving record. Such records effect your insurance at time of renewal and sometimes restrict your employment options if your job requires operation of a motor vehicle.

4. If you refuse the offer at early resolution, they will mail you a date for trial and then you follow all the steps as mentioned in #1 above. Again at the trial the prosecutor (city's lawyer) will offer you a deal before the start of trial, which may or may not be same as the previous deal. The result is still the same.

5. If you need an interpreter you have to request one at the time of filing for trial or at least 15 working days before the trial date. You cannot demand at the time of trial.

Hopefully you will actively participate on the board in addition to requesting all the social assistance that this country offers.

Good luck.
