If u r referring to the former CEO of Computer Associates, if I am not mistaken, is a Sri Lankan.
Reg income tax raids in India, look at the bollywood stars. Some fo tehm have been raided. That does not bother them or anyone at all. Life goes on.
According to the statistics, less than 2% of population in India file their tax returns. Majority are salaried folks who try to abide by the rules. In Canada, CRA gets more than 60% return from the canadian population.

Look at the other side, if you are too honest and pay all the taxes due to the govt., some politicians is going to take it home because of corruption and you are a fool to work hard, pay taxes honestly and let the politicains take home your hard earned money.
Whatever my personal opinion is, I could not evade income taxes as I was salaried employee in India. I do sometimes feel that my money was forcebly taken away by the govt and pocketed by politicians.
It is like they say in Canada, you drive according to traffic conditions.
