Guidance on coming to Canada & Immigration formalities details

I have recently got an Canadian visa valid till OCT 2006 after 4 loooooooong years of waiting.
First of all I would like to tell something in brief about myself. I am a BE (Mech) graduate of 1994 batch and around 35 years of age. I had been in the Manufacturing industry till 2000 start and then switched to IT. Now working as Assistant Manager in a private company near Delhi.
At the time when I applied for Canada immigration my situation was very bad. Way back in 2001-2002, I was one of the guys to be laid off due to bad state of IT industry that time. Now I am in a comfortable state and earning around 40 k per month. I am not a fully IT or programming type of person. I had a working exposure on Oracle Pharma applications and have little bit of system admin knowledge both around 3-4 yrs exp.
I have read couple of threads in this site and am undecided 
whether to come to Toronto leaving this present job which is quite comfortable one. I am aware (Thanks to all guys in this site for sharing the info) that getting a job right away in ones field might be difficult initially.
1) What I am thinking of now is, if given permission for taking leave for some days in the present job, I would come down to Canada for completing the immigration formalities and flyback to India. Now I would like you guys to guide me whether this is viable, how many days would it take for the initial formalities in Canada after landing and how long can I stay out of Canada after that process which makes my PR active.
2) Is it a good option to come to Canada now?? Does anyone have the idea about the job situation in this field of Oracle Pharma applications? I am also trying to check some links like monster.ca, Workopolis etc although...
3) I have got the visa for Toronto and is there any possiblity that I can go to Vancover or any other state on this Visa or I would need to take prior permission?
Information on these would be help me in deciding whether I would be able to come before Oct 2006.

1. Your first option is viable.
2. You can land anywhere (except Quebec). I am not an expert and you can search on this website (as lot of discussion about it).
3. Regarding jobs, I don't know about your field.

You can take off for some time and try your luck out there and complete formalities. but 10-15 days will not be enough for you to get any thing positive but this period will give you true picture of Canada.
I too had similar story like you and work on Oracle Applications. Had a nice job, quit and left of great country canada. I came back within 3 months after seeing the actual condition out there.
My advise would be not to go there if you think of building a good career in IT. If you just want to go there and feel you can do any job to survive than you can go there as getting Odd jobs would not be difficult but beleive me you and your families life will then be a hell out there. So for family and career you should not take any chances by quiting the job and go there.
I would not like other to go through the state i went thru in this 3 months. I would help you in any possible way
