HI,
I just got confirmed and sent my passport for the Visa. Im in India, but I had applied from Buffalo in 2001. I plan to land around May '04. Im getting married on March 3rd. To bring my future wife, is it better that I go to Canada and apply from there or is it better to apply in Delhi. Any time estimates from inside Ca and from Delhi.
Thanks,
Sri
If you get married before you get your visa or before you land, you are supposed to inform CHC and they will process your wife as well. You'll have to return your visa. DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE OF GETTING MARRIED AND THEN LANDING ...
Best option: Land first and then get married & sponsor your wife. Spouse sponsorship is very fast now.

Thanks Massood, but I dont think it would be possible from my side to land first and then get married, because Im in India. can you please suggest alternative. Can I land after marrige and then apply. Or can I apply for my wife first and then land.
Will it affect my status or will it just take long for my wife. Thanks a lot.
Sincerely.
Then you should at least get legally married; inform CHC which means adding your wife as your accompanying dependent spouse and then wait for visas for both.

Hi Massood,
I talked to your office in Chennai India and they in turn asked me to talk to you again, and they said that they would sponsor my would be wifes visa as well.
Ok here is the situation and problem.
I live in India. My marriage is on March3.
I Got my passport with Immigration Visa stamped by mail just yesterday. It was sent to my mailing address (Brother) in the US. He will bring the passport/Visa when he comes to India on Jan 24, 2004.
Now, I am going to get married in March. Should I inform the CHC in Delhi. Please remember that I had applied in Buffalo as at that time (2001) I was in US. Shall I land in canada ,after the wedding, without my wife and then apply for her. Please let me know. I am going to US in May for official visit and at that time i plan to drive to Toronto.
Or the other thing is can I land in May and get the PR card and come back to India and then apply for my wife . I dont mind going to canada even after a year or two.
Is it illegal if I go to Canada in May without declaring tht Im married. Because at the time of visa issuing I am unmarried.
Really confused..
PLease advise.
Thanks
When you received your visa, you were single. Best option: you land in Canada before you get married and return to India and get married & sponsor your wife while you are in India. The process is very quick [approx. 3-5 months].
If you land in May [after wedding], your status would have changed. Legally, you are supposed to inform the CHC of this important change in your marital status. If you don't you may be in trouble when you subsequently sponsor your wife.
Bear the cost and land before the wedding and go back to India. It will save you a lot of hassle and money ...

Hi,
Thanks for the response. I am going to take your advise and land before in february and stay for a week.
I have a relative in Toronto with who Ill stay and whose address Ill use. I intend staying for a week. I am not going to wait for my PR card. Because I simply dont have time before the wedding ( Mar 3). My deadline to Land is mar 7. Geez.
1. Can I come out of Canada without PR. I know its not ideal. But willing to take risk as I have a trusted relative who will keep the PR for now. Do I have to do some paperwork to get out of Canada after landing and before I get the PR card?
2. I applied for PR in Buffalo (I was on H1 in the US at that time). Now Im in india. Can I fly to Toronto from india. Will the officer object to that?
3.Also I have not informed the canadian consulate that I changed my residence. My mailing address was however the same in the US. Is that ok? If not ok what can I do? Change my residence address from e-Client?
4. can your firm help me in filing for wifes visa. Who should I contact. I live in chennai.
Thanks again for the wonderful responses.
