Hi Guys:)

I've been following up this post for quite sometime now and also read the difference in opinion held by people over this topic. Well to each is own, in the sense who tasted success in canada never would call it bad while unfortunately who had to struggle/had better lifestyle before in canada have every right to feel dejected. In the first place lets ask what exactly were/are everyone expecting from/in Canada . Lets face it
A North American Tag to your back which is regarded very high back in India irrespective of the kind of work you do in Canada thanks to $1 = 34. and hoping to save a little to send back to India (eg: even if $100 saved/send each month back to India means a hell lot coz for that 100 you' d have to work 10 hrs @ 8 per/hr in canada and 26-30 days/ X+1 hrs back in India) and mind you lets forget the savings part back in India (although smart people do and for that matter can do it anywhere in the world). From what I've read in this site highly qualified people have to do odd jobs there to begin with , let me site an instance here the booming BPO business in India has 40% highly qualified MBA's/CA's/Inter, Engineers and so on doing data entry jobs which a high school grad does there and gets paid handsome for that 8/10 hrs they work unlike in India where people work in swing shifts doing the same with 1/10th sal what an high school grad earns there. Also the fact everyone follows the immigration channel from India paying hefty fees to lawyers/consultants to have their case filed and waiting like 4 yrs before they land in Canada. So defi the jobs which appeared suiting to your qualification may not last that long until you land in Canada. Lets assume a guy decides to immigrate at 27 from India and by the time he's finally in Canada it's almost 31 and in the meanwhile he/she gets promoted to some senior level back in India with ofcourse the perks. Now being used to all the comfy at that level back in India and coming to a new country to start from scratch is scarey and time consuming ofcourse, but in the first place why that dawn of realisation so late to venture to a new country so late in your career and expecting the same post, perks and sal which you enjoyed back in India????. Again boils down to the $1 = 34. Also a suggestion to the seniors who have developed this wonderful site, everyone talks about having canadian work ex is a must to get a job there why not some generous soul who really wants to help our desi people refer/hire guys who you know through network to your firms/self owned business to let him have the initial so called \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" Canadian work ex\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\". Show people the ropes rather than discourage/bad mouth the country coz everyone there went with the same aspirations as the would be joiners are. Need not be everyone has to go through the same turmoil which unfortunately some had to go through. Nothing personal against anyone just my thoughts apologies if it hurt somebody's feelings. Bottom line \\\\\\\"When in Rome be like a Roman\\\\\\\" adapt to change and live happily for the chance one got to be there than having to travel by the over crowded buses/trains in India's metros. Canada is a beautiful country.

Cheers
Ramesh

Sorry, I do not understand that calculation at all. 10 hrs x $ 8 would mean $ 80 minus tax (around $60, I suppose). It would take less than 2 days' work @ $8/hr to send $100 to India.

You will also have to be employed throughout the year in Canada to save money. Layoffs are very common here. Only after working 900 hours in Canada, you get employment insurance benefits.

Anyway, if you are in Canada, you also spend more. You would spend Rs 21,000 or more for rent, Rs 70 for bus fare one-way single trip, a coconut for Rs 34, cheapest pack of wafers or biscuit for Rs 30-35, bread for Rs 45-70, 4 L milk for Rs 120, 500 gm yogurt for Rs 90, a small cup of Tim Horton's coffee for Rs 50 or so, and so on. For smokers, a pack of cigarette for Rs 250. These are only examples and I have not done a perfect calculation.
