Hi Folks
I want to go to India with my 3 month old infant. I did not recieve his birth certificate yet. So called the office of registrar to inquire about it. They said i can fax them the tickets if I need the certificate. Any idea how long it will take from getting certificate to visa?
Hi Simarpal,
we also inquired about the visa and passport for our infant.
they told us that it will take almost 5 months to get birth registration, but in case we wish to visit India or any other country, they can issue us a travel letter.
we have to call the passport office and ask them about the travel letter.
hope this will help.

hello!
As per new rules by the Indian Consulate in Toronto, that came into effect Nov 20th, all visa applications have to be mailed to the Consulate and the pp will be mailed back. The Consulate will turn them around in 3 business days (excl. the day of arrival and departure of the pp) That's a good 2 weeks.
Getting the Canadian pp will probably take another 2 weeks or so.

But do you know the add and phone no of passport office? If so could you please provide me that.
Do they also need the tickets as a proof?
..........For this purpose, City Hall may issue a Division Registrar's Statement, also referred to as a "Travel Letter" for a child born in Mississauga. A Travel Letter can only be issued up to 90 days (three months) from the date the forms are received by the City of Mississauga for the purpose of registration.....

You can ask passport canada if they will issue a passport based on Travel Letter for going to India.

(I don't know how you can get child's ticket without a passport. )

Thanks Rajcanada for the information you provided.
Just a tip, when applying for a Canadian passport, fill-in the form on-line. That will save you a lot of time at the pp office. I've heard you don't have to wait in Q (yet to be confirmed)
