Hi group

I was just wondering if any of you have installed a central humidifier to your heating system at home. I am thinking of installing one but not sure which brand/size to go for. Any tips woudl be much appreciated.

Cheers

I installed one about 3 years ago. I compared the various models in the market & decided on the Aprilaire 600 model. It has a sensor which has to be placed outside the house (wired). Based on the outside temperature, it adjusts the humidity level.

I pulled up the list of dealers in Toronto, and found one in Scarborough. Paid $200 at that time (tax incl) + my labour for installation.

SS, is it hard to install humidifier to furnance? Do you have dealer information?

Couple of months someone quoted me $250 installed + 0 Tax for General 1042 series which I believe is not as sophiticated as April 600. I did not care to get it installed at that time as weather was nice and not so cold. Now I am thinking of doing it around fall.

Hi

Thanks for your responses. I was wondeirng if you guys have any idea abt the humidifiers like AirKing available in home depot. These brands does not look like they need a sensor outside the house. Are they any good at all.

It's not hard to install one, probably about an hour or so. You would need one of those metals cutters, to cut a hole in the vent. (I do have one, if someone wants to borrow it). They cost around 5-10 bux. The wiring is straight forward. I was able to install the sensor externally since my basement was just being finished (so I took the wiring from inside the ceiling). Otherwise you'd have to take it along the ceiling.

I do not have the dealer info. but if lookup the list of dealers on the Aprilaire website, just call them and take a quote for the unit alone. This guy I think was on Neilson Rd, north of Finch.

At my previous place I had one without the sensor, and had to change the setting at the start/end of winter. Hence I prefered this one with the sensor. Since then Aprilaire 700 has been out. Haven't compared the 2 to see the difference.

SS,

Did you take the water connection from the water heater or directly from the water pipe?
