I got an Aprilaire central humidifier from US and got a guy to here to fix it for me. It seems to be working becuase my hardwood floors are not creeking (or atleat not yet) and I dont get a static shock wheneven I touch anything. It was bad last year before I installed the humidifier. I will for sure if it works only after a couple of months when it is peak winter I guess.

Cheers

I chkd with one company. They quoted Aprilaire 600 model with an outdoor sensor = 399$+GST [includes installation]

Has anyone got a cheaper quote,
Also, is it worth the money to have an outdoor sensor to adjsut the Humidity? I guess, that is why the above model is expensive.

Hi guys !
Do not opt for drum type humidifier ( generally sold in Homedepot ) ..
They have various problems including standing water creating mosquitos ..
Flow through type are the best one and are mntce free .. ( General air 1042 )
With right humidity settings one can save upto 2% on mnthly gas bills ....
The diagram is simple but if you wanna interconnect with furnace be very careful. One must understand basic colors and symbols given in furnace diagram .. While connecting if you short ground ( which generally happens ) you can be left w/o heat ......
Any specific questions ?? Please post and I will try and reply them ...

Can someone tell me what is the optimal humidity setting for a row townhome.

My Aprialire has a outdoor sensor but I did not install it as i thougth it was a hassle to take the sensor all around the basment to react the small window. So i am running it manually. In summer i just shut the humidifier down.

Cheers

One Question for the Users - Basic one
What exactly is the use of Outdoor Sensor? What does it solve? Whats the point?

With the automatic setting, the humidifier maintain the relative humidity in your home automatically. The outdoor sensor senses the outdoor temperature and adjusts the humity level accordingly. Offcourse you have to set it initially (1st time only) within the first 2-3 days of installation.

OTOH if you have it set to manual control, you’d have to change the humidity level setting manually.

I tried to contact couple of General Aire and April Aire dealers and they are saying that they do not sell to consumer. Does anyone know where I can buy these from or any contractor who can do turnkey?
