well education in india no doubt is getting better..if you notice we indians have
a greater analytical ability coz of education and i know of friends who studied in india came here and are doing excellent in the colleges.. only because they are used to studying from a really young age unlike here wherein kids dont give exams before a certain age.. also know a friend who studied in an ICSE school in india, and is now doing genetics engineering in the US.. indian education toughened him up to face any kind of academic situation.

Whew! At least there are some who live in the real world and see things straight. Schooling in India specifically in cities has improved lot. For example, if u study in a convent school, u get a very good education. With the advent of computers, etc things are different now, as compared to 25-30 yrs back when we were in school. In fact I studied engg in a taluka HQ. Had a tough time in the first 3-4 months when I came to US for masters degree. I had to ride it out. Well, who said life is easy.

Everyone’s situation is different. In our case, we have family commitments. We can’t just run away from it. Our kids are above 10. With mom and grandparents around, I don’t think they will miss dad. With good communication techs., keeping in touch on a daily basis is no big deal. I could get an assignment in FarEast till I decide to retire (next 6-7 yrs) and be near to Chennai.

My suggestion:
Don’t send him now and kill his creativity and best years of his childhood. Wait to finish his 4th or 5th grade.

i had wrongly framed the question......from a point that my child was going alone to india for basic education.
but the thruth is that we all will be going back and not my son alone.
once he completes grade 10th or 12th then if he says that he wants to study abroad for higher studies , then we might come back.(its only his wish)

we spoke to some schools in mumbai and also with ambani school at the same time, they all said the same thing that he wont be going to sr kg ...he has to start again with jk.

so our question is that is our basic education better than the canadian basic education?

Basic education in my opinion, and the opinions of many, in certain schools in India is much better than the basic education in Canadian public schools.

For instance in Pune to name a few schools, were you to send your child (boy) to Bishop's or St.Vincent's (for girls- St.Mary's or St. Helena's - please note I am only naming a few schools- there are many), I am pretty dead sure they will wind up being better off education and general knowledge (GK) wise than if they went to the usual public school here. As some posters have mentioned before, the educational system in these schools has changed to reflect and comprise some of the systems here and the combo both of the old and new is pure dynamite.

In Mumbai, I am told Cathedral's and Campeon are good for boys. J.B. Petit for girls. For co-ed, since my time BIS (Bombay International School) till this date is superb. BIS had the US style education since the 70's.

Now of course there are IB schools and several other excellent schools too. Some of my friends who have children with Canadian passports studying in Mumbai have been exempt from Marathi but not from Hindi and they go to the same schools as the Indian passport holders.

In my case, when dinosaurs roamed the earth :) , I went to the US from a good ICSE system school in India after doing my 4th standard. In the US I went to a normal public school into grade 5 and they found me so good I was double-promoted to the 6th. After that, I went back to India upto the 8th standard and then went back to a US secondary school for high school which was a breeze and loads of fun- don't remember doing much study- just groovin' and having a ball.
University was a totally different ball game, but you were asking about basic education and I am interpreting that to mean upto 10th standard, based on your post.

India in a good school is best for that and the education is getting better and better.

Even children of friends who have come here feel that India is far more advanced in study. Recently a couple came from Pune and their daughter joined 6th grade here and said she had done all the 6th grade Math and English in standard 5. Her GK far surpassed that of any normal 6th grader. As a matter of fact when she did some kind of exam which qualifies one's level (I think it's the EQAO or some such thing), she even had grade 9 levels in certain subjects!
And her mastery of English- too much!

And another thing I notice is that the penmanship of children from India (certain schools) is much much better than that of the children here. Excellent flowhand.

Once again- based on the fact that you are looking at Ambani's school and interpreting from that you are looking for a good school and not just any school in India and the assumption that if you are here that your child will be attending a normal public school- I have given you my viewpoint.

I think its a good point to make that we are comparing an average public school with the elite schools in India.

I never knew there are exemptions from Marathi (or other local langauages in other states), considering the shiv sena and others objections. How hard it is to get admission in these type of school, and what is the approximate cost per child any inputs. I heard in Bombay there are some schools which charge 1 lac per month, I hope these are not one of them

I havent studied in an Indian school so I do not have a basis for comparison but I do agree that every parent always wants what is best for their child.

What about those people that cannot afford to put their children into the top schools?

Will that Indian educated child fit in here? will they have good friends when they return to Canada - because they have not gotten to know other children in their canadian neighborhoods through school?

Sorry to ask but what is the benefit of having great penmanship? How does that make one better educated?

Last - what about good schools in Canada ie/ Private schools or highly rated public schools? have you tried those schools before deciding that Indian schools are better?

None of my questions are meant to be sarcastic. Just curious.
