CD,
This happened to me on my way to work this morning.
I was travelling on north bound Islington. Where it meets steels, there will be a separate lane for left turns, 2 lanes for straight driving and one lane for right turns. I had to turn right and so i was in the right turn lane. It was Red light at Steels and hence many cars were standing in the lane for the light to turn Green. Just before turning right at steels, there was a lady in an SUV who wanted to enter my lane (perpendicular) from the gas station that was on the right side, either to turn right to NB islington or left to SB Islington. I have seen that in many incidents like this Motorists give way for other motorists to either enter or leave perpendicularly.
In my case I also left the way. The lady then entered my lane perpendicularly and wanted then to enter the straight lane which heads into NB islington. At this point some other motorists came on that lane and hence she could not go into that lane. She now blocked my car and that there was no way that she could go until the light turned green and the traffic started to flow.
Now the guy behind me, started honking me. I did not see his honk for 10 -15 seconds but after that when i looked at my rear mirror, I saw that he was showing the finger at me. At this point, I did not know if what i did was correct and was i convinced that I was right in leaving way, I would have stopped my vehicle and called the cops. But I was not sure , if what i did was right. So i just took a pen and wrote the nearby car's plane numbers. After the light turned green (in 60-90 seconds), the lady in the SUV left and I turned right. The guy who gave me the finger also turned and was driving parallel to me in the next left lane (East bound Steels) and honked at me. I did not see him but i guess he would have been showing me his finger. He then proceeded ahead of me and I could see him showing me the finger at me again. He sped and soon i could not see him. Before he sped off, I took his number.
My question to CD's is : Was i wrong or correct? I remember my examiner (G2 exit test at Kitchener in June 2003) telling me that most accidents occur when you go off the way (circumventing road rules) to help someone on the road.
I invite CD members to share their views.

In my humble opinion, what you did was right. You were courteous enough to make way for the lady. Sometimes, it doesn't work out. Oh well.

But the guy flipping birdies...he's a moron. Just forget about it. He'll probably keep doing it till some other moron takes offence to that silly gesture and then they'll smash each others' skull with a baseball bat. Then, this world will be a slightly better place.

Don't think that whatever you did was wrong. You helped someone and due to that the road was blocked and definitely you can call the cops when somebody is pointing a finger on you and honking provided you must have solid witness. Cops generally asked for a witness when you complain so if you have somebody sitted with you in a car than these people dont point finger bcoz these gora people are very smart. Generally cops also verify the witnesses like other drivers on the road at that time or your coriders or the other person car's coriders and more people supports you than definitely they take an action. The unfortunate thing is that road raging generally harmful to the wise person because he/she is not prepared for it and getting disturbed and lose concentration and people who practise this are careless. Laws are there but it has its own limitations. So forget about such issues

I suggest that since you have number you should report to police. I am sure this guy has bad record and on your report police may just believe you and put a ticket for him for road rage. Even if they don't you have nothing to loose.

You have the opportunity to show him the finger the right way.

Really eh?! This is your advice? You really think aggravating a moron like that helps? Can you think twice before you dish out such advice?

Sheer genius! It ain't your Dad's either fella!

You know, this age-old dumb friggin tit-for-tat attitude is what causes more serious road rage incidents with serious consequences.
