We were fortunate to listen to Manna Dey when he was in Toronto last year.
He loses out on "breath" sometimes due to age. Otherwise, what a memorable performance it was - what variety, what rendition, impeccable expression and above all divine melody.
We try to attend lot of programmes - people talk, move, leave early etc. Here it was almost midnight, not a soul moved, people were asking for more....
In a touching finale, he sang "AYE MERE PYARA WATAN, AYE MERE BICHRE CHAMAN, TUJHKO DIL QURBAN" We had tears in our eyes....
Words fail to describe that evening's experience.
I am a big fan of him and Rafi. From his unmemorable nos. my favourites are - "A mere payare Watan" from Kabuliwala, from Ek Fool Do Mali - Tujhe Suraj Kahon Ya Chanda, Kon Aya Mere Ghar Ke Dware and all nos from Barsat. I will attend it for sure.
