Totally agree with lana 2005. I know of some very successful account professionals here who had a kick start working with account temps early on.
account temps has various branches all around GTA. Each of these branch caters to its own client base. If you are good in excel, have stretched your self a bit learning about canadian pay roll, bit of taxes and have worked in accounts before in some part of the world, pl go get registered and take a test.
Chating with these guys who worked for account temps I am tempted to share that the other factors which mattered along with the subject knowlede that got them the job were the ways they carried themselves in the process, the way they dressed and communicated. Though companies like account temps are referred to as agencies by some, it gets reflected in their approach when they interact with them.
These companies hiring temp employees have some very strong brands as their clients and are huge in terms of their own operations.
Adding further to the point raised by icecube, if you have worked in account temps in USA it matters a million. Account temps also called Robert Half int is head quartered in US and has extensions in Canada. The strongest clients of account temps are companies with a similar structure- Head office in US and extensions in Canada.
I think icecube you are several notches above others even before you have applied. Good luck!!
THanks Babloo, lana and Tiger for all the inputs you gave. Definitely a big help. A bit more about myself. I did my B.com in India and came to the US for MBA in 1999, which i did from Wayne State Univ (Detroit - Grad 2001, the time when US economy was undergoing a lean phase). I got placed in just a couple of days after registering with Accountemps, in a civil engineering company. Worked there for my entire PT period and they also filed for H1..continued working there for another six months and then left the job to go to India...
Came back from India, tried finding jobs in accounting, wasnt successful...changed the field to software (Software Testing), got a couple of projects, currently on bench ...meanwhile I also got the PR Canada....and here I am thinking of landing by the of the year in Canada....dont want to take chance with US GC.......never know how long it takes....
About my accounting job, the responsibilities were not that many...mostly taking care of invoicing, payables....
Thanks again
Which softwares did you use?,, Do you know ACCPAC...AS400, PROPHIX
None of those you mentioned, only quickbooks,MS Excel and Access
