This has been discussed umpteen no. of times and would be discussed later also ... as with passage of time , circumstances and members keep on changing ...

No harm in that and none in putting forth our views and discussing so that new points evolve . Decisions like Immigration and returning back are major and no harm in validations - obviously all said and done it has to be subjective as each individual is unique .

Taking this further , if it needs be discussed more - is there an growing trend for Indians to be returning back to India from States on their own will as India provides good growth and income these days ( of course cannot be compared but much better then before ) ??

There's also no harm done in discussing whether lions should've been given two tails by either evolution or divinity.

Maybe its just me but I find it a highly unproductive "discussion" when essentially people on both sides of the fence are trying to convince each other that they're right. Especially on such a subjective topic where the reality is there is no right or wrong, there's only perspective. The funniest part is that people who're going ON and ON about how great things are in India have been doing it from Canada for the last whatever years. I don't get it!

All the power to people who've actually followed through on their views, whether that meant they moved east OR west.

Does that mean people I'm asking people not to discuss this? Absolutely not! Knock yourselves out, guys!

:)

No knock outs please -- only brushes ....

Yeah , I agree that somewhere down the line very deep inside it has to be a personal decision - for some it may take 1 year , 2 years - the longer the more miserable --- but it should be an decision based on awareness and realities and a fair comparison of one's own pros and cons.

Looking at the posts, looks like there is a gross misunderstanding.
I would like to restate that no one is telling that either India or Canada is the best place to live (atleast me). I belive that we are only trying to say that India has made rapid strides from 2002 till 2007 that is very hard to belive. Even I was convinced that India had made great strides when i constantly heard my classmates and friends from India tell me that the standard of living has improved considerably. It was only in the year 2007 that when i attempted to make an investment in Chennai for around 7 lakhs (to buy a flat) when some one told me that decent 2 or 3 bedroom flats are 40 lakhs + in Chennai suburbs. I could not afford it.It was then i started enquire around and found that it was true.
Now you will not find great improvement in the towns like Trichy or Madurai but Chennai, B'lore, Hyderabad (among south indian states) have improved a lot. Likewise who will live in stay to work Muskoka Bay, Breacebridge, Sault ST. Marie in Ontario anyway.
Again to conclude, I belive that this thread is more to highlight the great strides made in India. Some see the glass as half empty while the others see it as half full. It depends on the person who sees it.
In my case, the only tie between me and India are my parents. Once they die, I will not be having any ties with India. I will always be searching for a land which makes full use of my knowledge and education and where i can save to have a better life during my retired life. If Timbuktu gives me that pleasure, that will be the place you can find me.

Let's face it........... this debate about the booming economy in India, millions of rupees as salaries, luxury cars, yada yada yada, can go on until the end of time (literally) and there will be no winners (or losers either). For someone who is just pursuing the glitter of gold (read "rupees";), India should be the destination. Yeah it is possible to make that kind of money there........ Not to mention that there are many who have made it big here.

There are two important issues that we tend to overlook when we discuss mega rupees. OK, so you have the money, the lifestyle, the luxury car. However can you do without the day to day issues like corruption (from the grass root level upto the top), the red tape, the lawlessness, the pollution, the scumbag politicians, the high incidence of crime (and the chance that you could be a victim, if you rake in the mega rupees).

Of course one can counter my argument by saying that this could happen here too, or that there are multiple issues to deal with, here.

Someone said in the discussion that the "bubble can NOT burst" in India. There is a cliche that "What goes up, must come down". Also the law of nature states that everything will come full circle some day (that is ordained by God).

I write this, at the risk of being brick batted, reviled and dubbed "anti Indian".

Have a great day, a great week and a great year ahead!

Cir57,
I donot think that anyone would throw brick bats on you.
I agree that you expressed your point of view and many be others would have a point of view which is quite different from your point of view.
I once used to live in Tamilnadu and I donot think that living among politicians, , polluted land, corrupt govt officials etc.. make such a difference to your lifestyle. In fact, I used to like living there than here. There was an exitement to life. Whenever i needed a service, I was pleased to pay a premium on top of the govt. fee to get my service done (like ration card, railway reservations, community certificate, IT clearance, admission to schools, Cinema ticket, ). Why I am saying this is that it is not that bad (to me) as you made it out in the post.
The argument can be never ending. what i wish to emphasize is that living a life is a personal decision. One may like Canada whereas the other may like India and some may shuttle between the two enjoying it both. It really depends on the individuals and the situation that they are in. It also depends on your profession and your way of being brought up.

I completely agree with you dude. This is what I've been advocating for so long on this forum, but it looks like people who immigrated here are all VERY critical to Canada day in and out. Well, doesn't matter to me at least. I left India, and now I am all about Canada. Of-course, I will always love India for being born and raised up, and for having my family there. But, now I am in Canada - working, living my life to the fullest for the last 2 years or so, it hardly matters to me whether the entire India is swimming in the ocean of Gold or not. Being in IT, I am aware that if I go back I'll also get a handsome salary, but no - I love being here.

All this 'India booming' reminds me of the late 90s when Y2K and Dot Com was really happening. Every IT guy was heading to States on H1B. Everyone was raking up in big dollars and the situation was pretty much the same as it's today. But, but, but... the Dot Com busted. Thousands of IT professionals were thrown back to India and were given pink slips. I witnessed few at my workplace in Delhi too. They gave a hugh party when they got H1B but within 4 months they were back in the same cubicle. At that time too every Tom, Dick, and Harry was lining up in front of US Embassy for H1B.

So, if you're in Canada, immigrated here, you have two choices/options - work towards your goals here, love the curruption free and clean environment. Alternatively, if you do not like it here and believe that being in India you could make more money then please go back. It's never too late.

Cheers and good luck to all of you in your endeavors :)
