Hi All,

I have Canadian PR status and I need to get the US Visa to attend a business conference in the New York. The conference is scheduled on Sept 25, 2007.

I am wondering what class of visa I should apply, and whether I will get a visa in so short time span.

Thanks,

MG.

You will need B1 visa ... the best way is to call the number 1-900-451-2778 . They charge CA 1.89 per minute ., but you can call from your office phone as it is related to your work. There you can ask the person who is booking oif he can accomodate you earlier & of they have any cancellation. I got an appointment earlier as there was a cancellation. Just give it a shot .... for more info

Another thing you can do is .... after you book an appointment with the consulate , you can send a letter to them for issuance of visa in emergency. It did not work out for me .... but i did get a call from the Embassy & they mentioned that they were having a lot of appointments hence could not accomodate. For more info http://www.amcits.com/emergency_visa.asp

Puttoo,

Thanks. A few follow up questions. I tried calling that number from different phone systems but it seems the number is not working.

1. Do I have to apply for B1/B2 visa online, before I call them to expediate my appointment?

2. Previously, I had a 6 month B1/B2 visa, which expired about an year ago. Does that mean I have to apply for a renewal and not for a new visa?

3. I initiated an application through the online visa reservation system, but I am getting the following message: 'There are no appointments currently available. Toronto allows visa appointment bookings only up to 6 weeks in advance. All appointments have been booked for the next 6 weeks. Appointments are added regularly, please revisit the site to confirm availability for future dates.'

Thanks,

MG.

The number works only when you are able to acess 900 line numbers .... try booking from 1-888-840-0032 . You would need a credit card & they will charge you CAD 1. 59 per minute for this. They should be able to clarify all your questions regarding the visa. Yes you need an appointment before you can apply for an emergency visa request.

1. You need not book online, before calling the reservation option

2. It will not be a renewal, but a fresh B1/B2

3. The online option is still the best, IMO. Try logging in early at around 6 am and you may get lucky

How often do I have to visit the website to get an appointment?
Though the next 6 weeks are pack, I have 10 days before Sept 25, for the visa appointment.

To increase your chances of landing a spot , you should visit every day (preferably early morning)
