Hi All:
Years back, when I got my Indian passport, my middle and last names were reversed in it (some clerical mistake?! - this happened when they were hand writing the names etc.). I never cared about it much then and it became my legal name here. In India, other official records - banks, property etc - have my correct name and though the difference with passport name created a few confusions, it was never an issue.
My son has our real last name (my 'now official' middle name) and this is causing a bit of confusion when we travel. (To add to it, my wife has a different last name, which makes it all three of us having three different last names) So I am thinking of legally changing my last name to the real one.
If I change the last name, I know I can change all my documents. But what about credit history, employment history and my son's birth certicate? Can I change them also to my new 'official' name? Any one has any experience? Any other thoughts etc.
Thanks!
Hi Viggy,
This is exactly my story too... Have encountered a few qns regarding three last names...but not created any problems... I dont know whether changing my name is really wise at this stage... its an headache ... My wife keeps her lastname, My child has my middle name as her last name, which is officially my last name in India, but middle name in Canada.
