Hi,
My wife is travelling to India with our daughter using Air france(toronto-paris-delhi). Does anyone know if I should get a notarized consent letter saying that I approve of this travel. I will be with them at the airport till they go for security check.
Regards,
Souvik
Yes. You should give a notorised letter both authorising them to indian and return from India to Canada. They MIGHT ask this at the immigration. Failure to provide this information (if asked for) can bar the traveller from entering the flight. So be informed and do give the authorisation letter to the spouse travelling with the child.
Hope this helps.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
My wife travelled with kids and the letter as per their specification but without notary sign, she did not have any problem.
I did the same, the immigration officer said next time get it signed by notary.
Notary is not mandatory but sugested, letter is a must.

I came with my son in February from Bombay to Toronto.
I was asked for the letter at Toronto. I did not have it. The immigration officer asked me lot of questions regarding previous landing etc. Finally after 15-20 min they let us out.
We didn't know the letter was required. Please be sure to carry it.

Greetings Souvik
Please make sure the letter is carried. To back this up with an incident; we had taken the "human way to travel" (alas!) mode Via Rail to the US last summer and on our return journey a desi family of a handful of members, was not allowed into Canada at the border because the mom did not have this sort of letter. They were asked to disembark.
Thanks

Thanks to everyone for responding. looks like spending the 40 bucks on the notary will be a lot better option than hoping for an understanding immigration official.
