It is now official in Toronto. The Union has given its 48 hour notice for strike action if contract demands are not met

Everyone is working in full swing to avert the strike but in the event that it happens on Monday, I am wondering if any CD's (Who depend on TTC for work) have any contingency plans.
Looking forward to your ideas.

It can be a good idea for those who can access GO Transit, to opt that as the best alternative. I would be opting that option to reach Union from Kipling GO station.

So finally, as expected the strike is called off at the last minute - just like a drama.

I think the city of toronto is increasingly going into lot of dramabaaji - what with increasing taxes, closing down school pools, shutting down sheppard subway, cancelling/reducing open times for community centers etc...I havent heard of a more in-efficient council before. All these facilities were there and operational in the past with the lower amount to taxes - why would the money suddenly vanish? I know the city will blame the province for cutting down grants - but that also displays the poor capacity of negotiators with the province.

Finally, it is easier to do dramabaaji which raises so much uproar that finally residents are ready to pay higher taxes in return to keep the same services.

I cant understand how can the union leader keep a stright face while holding the city at ransom and declare (after the settlement) they have the 'highest paid' workers in the country at a time when the commission is running into losses and taking steps to cut losses by cancelling services. Initially when the threats for strike started I always thought the demand was for keeping the pay while the employee is out of service due to work related injury - which was a just reason.

And again like in India, business will resume as usual and we will be paying more taxes in future without anyone complaining.

Is there possibility tax-payers can go on strike???

Our esteemed mayor David Miller appears to be spineless. He is cozy with the unions so they have gotten what they wanted for the second time. Now it will be reflected in higher fares once again in 3-6 months.

Toronto is heading south pretty fast...what with the rising debt, higher taxes etc.

A shining example of socialism...
