Why is Tim Hortons in the news for the most stupid reasons?
A week back it was firing an employee for giving a tim bit to a baby and now in the star I see that they once fired a lady for allegedly taking $ 2 (Charges not proven) : http://www.thestar.com/News/Ontario/article/425413
They had made the police (most of whom received freebies) charge her for theft under $5000 ,which the crown later withdrew. I do remeber some more instances of Tim Hortons acting very stupid but it does not come into my mind right now. Probably, I will google later and add on the links tomorrow.
One of my most horrible experiences in Canada was at Tim Hortons. I bought coffee at the drivethrough and had the exact change. So I kept the change on the drivethrough counter and proceeded to take my coffee which was on the counter. Immediately the lady in the drive through snatched it from my hand and kept it in out of my reach. Once she counted the change, she scowled and gave me the coffee. The joke was that the person who did this was a visible minority, same as me.
Does any Desi have horrible experience like this at Tim?

Peace out

When I landed in Canada and worked there for a mere 15 days, I had only bad experiences with Timmies. But thank God, it was only 15 days.

However, I still love Tim Hortons for it's range of timbits, bagels, donuts, steep tea, etc. So, I have finally forgiven them.

I agree 100%. I don't understand people who rave on about Tim Horton's coffee, it doesn't even taste good. I'd rather pay a few more cents and get a decent coffee from Starbucks. That being said, I would opt for Timmies coffee over a MacDonald's coffee anyday...

Hi TK,

Each TH is an independent franchisee and how they treat thier employees depends on the owner of the franchisee or the store manager on duty. While in some cases the amount may not be significant, it is generally a disciplinary action to set examples for other employees.

Ofcourse, I dont agree on the issue about firing for a free timbit given free to a kid, but then the employee could have offered to pay for the cost and the matter would have been resolved easily - there may be more to it than that meets the eyes and reported..

The only complaint I had was they accepted only cash and it was nice to know that they now accept Mastercard, which is much easier and convienent.

Just my 2 cents.
Hiren

I don't drink coffee. But, if it's gonna be (just in case) then of-course Starbucks is on top of my list with latte. :)

Hi Hiren. Here in Vancouver, they have started accepting Debit cards as well. They are actually getting there.

I agree with you when you said if the employee was so keen on giving a timbit to the kid then it had to be from her own pocket. The amount here is insignificant and regardless. Even if it's one cent.

But the firing was over the top. That's nothing to do with Tim Hortons, but more of a Managerial traits.
