Hi Everyone,

Can some expert please answer my questions.

My PR card was expired in June. Can I still apply for Travel Document? (My wife is a Canadian citizen and she is accompanying me in US). I've not lived in Canada for 730 days.

1 Where do I have to send the documents for Travel document? Following Link
shows 'Buffalo, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Washington, D.C.' to send documents for Travel document but which address should I specifically mail the documents to?
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/apply-where.asp#u

2. After the application is mailed in how long it takes to get the Travel document?
3. Can I enter in Canada by Car using Travel Document?
4. When in Canada how can I process the PR card renewal through rush service?
5. How long it takes to get the PR card renewed through rush service?

Thanks very much in advance!!

Please call this number and explain the situation you are in and ask for the application kit and other details that you want to know. If you are early you will get the call responded faster. This location is in Buffalo. 08:00 - 16:00 M-F There are other locations also. See the one closest to where you live.

Mission Tel.: (716) 858-9500

Freddie.

Tried Calling them but automated message said they don't respond to phone queries. :(

Can someone who applied for Travel Document share their experience?

Thanks

1) Applying for a travel document at the nearest center with your marriage certificate and spouse's details etc., and wait for the same to get through.
Since none of the Imm lines have live response, please e-mail to any center giving them your location in the USA and asking for the nearest location where you can file for one. After you submit your application for the TD, they might call you both for an interview. (You may have to carry all of the wedding pictures, invitation details, list of invitees, and the whole shooting match to that location for that interview.)

2) The same procedure, but at the crossing. It is left to the Immigration Officer to decide the issue there. Hope it turns out to be a favorable one. But you will need your expired PR Card and the COPR and also anything you want to substantiate your claim with, plus what ever that is called for in the application. (To be safe)

After you return to Canada and establish, you can apply to renew the PR Card. The time taken depends upon the clarity of your submission and the Officer to whom you convince your case.

Now, how to enter, this decision is yours to make.

Freddie.

Hi,

I'm not sure of the other points you asked but for point 2 "After the application is mailed in how long it takes to get the Travel document?"

It takes 2-3 weeks (maximum). I applied for my kids and we got it in 3 weeks. Unfortunately we did not apply from USA so no idea on US locations. You have to send this to your nearest location, for e.g. if you are in Texas, Washington will be closer or NYcity. The link you have sent has the mailing addresses of the Canadian embassy, please click on the city name and it will show you. I've pasted two addresses for you (for NY and WDC).

The Canadian Embassy
Immigration Section
501 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W.
Washington, D.C.
20001, USA

Consulate General of Canada
Immigration Section
1251 Avenue of the Americas
Concourse Level
New York, New York
10020-1175, USA

Hope it helps......................Jona

Thanks everyone for the reply.

Jona,

When applying for the Travel Document, CIC wants you to send the expired PR Card. Would they return it back after they issue the travel document?

I'm based in Tennessee so I think I can send the application to either NY or Buffalo.

Thanks again

I'm not sure but logic says no, they'll not return your expired card. Once a travel document is issued you'll need to re apply for a new PR card (to be sent on a Canadian address).

Jona
