No DT I don't think so.
You have to visit bank personally to open an account.
Thanks and regards.

My experience says that it is perfectly possible even without a SIN no. I have not come across any law which says that non residents or foreigners cannot open bank accounts in Canada.
However, it will be easier to open an account with a bank which has a branch in the US which you deal with, say HSBC, Citibank, ING etc. I opened mine with HSBC 3 months before finally moving to Canada.

Thanks Guys. I visited TD Canada Trust website and found out that you can open an account online "EVen without an SIN Number". The only conditions are that you should have an address in Canada and that you should already have an account with a Financial Institution (They require you to mail in a cancelled check from this institution).

It is possible to open a bank account and deposit money in a Canadian bank, even without a SIN number. You would however need to send copy of passport and drivers licence (or other photo ID) verified by the Canadian consulate/embassy where you are residing as well as bank statement with proof of residence. You would not be able to operate the account, however, until you are physically present in Canada and sign the signature cards, etc. I know RBC does this.
