Ashbomor,
From my experience, the profession that you guys are in are traditionally reserved for people who were born and brought up in Canada and hence you will be facing an enormous uphill task to get into your professions.
All people say that we are prepared to take what ever job comes but after 2 or 3 month of hard labour job / low paying CSR jobs you will regret your decision to come here.
Canada is mainly for IT people, Young people no education or high tech education and who are prepared to fight it out while living in humble circumstances and eventually climbing up the ladder.

Once agin, it depends on your priorities. if have any intention of saving moeny and then living a comfortable retired life in India, then it is an horrible option.

However, if you are coming with the idea of struggling, living hand to mouth, living in a clean / corruption free environment, to be where drugs (and illegal guns)are available in plenty, where your daugher can study free till 12th and then enter university with a student loan, where you get Canadian passport in 4 years and then you can drive to USA as long and whenever you wish, get a free by pass after waiting for a year , wait for 6- 8 hours in the emergency for getting a bleeding finger to be seen by the doctor for free (even if you want to speed up the process by giving $1 million in Canada it is not possible), where seniors with no proper investments live like beggers, where even the bus drivers greet you with a hello upon entering the bus, where 6-9 months will be snow and impossible to go for a nice walk, where to go to India for a family of 3 will cost Rs.2 lakhs , you will feel at home in Canada.

Please do your own due deligence and set your priorities. You are free to infrom us your priorities and we can advise you better. Please also search on the back threads of CD by using the Search option in Charcha for more opinions.

Hope this helps.

Peace

Dear TK,

Thanx a lot for being explicit and that is what I was looking forward to - honest thoughts.

You have given a great perspective of a practical look rather than pragmatic one and lets see how it goes from here.

Will try to search CHARCHA for any help on this subject.

thanx & regards,

the voice of true practical thought isnt necessarily the one that always spouts the most negative of one's own experience and subsequent bitter portrayal of his life onto the possibility of any future immigrant's experience.

It is necessary to also be pragmatic in your approach to making a decision. Perspectives are always just one sided. If for example you are concerned about weather, do use the internet as a source to determine what weather patterns are across Canada. You will see areas like Ontario have longer winters, but they are not "6-9 months". In metro Vancouver, Snow lasts approximately 3 weeks ALL YEAR however there is a lot of rain. This is just one example.

Also, despite TK's career "expertise", there are no careers/jobs/industries/occupations reserved for Canadians except jobs that are working for the government of Canada in which Canadian citizens are given preference. Immigrants who obtain citizenship also apply.

There are some really helpful professionals on this site that can provide you with all sorts of resources and information. Good luck!

One thing is for sure there will be a lot of struggle for the first 1-2 years.
Your future depends on how do u deal with the first 1-2 years.. Do you get stuck in the rut and continue life as is or do u work to get out of it.
If you study here it will really help you a lot to find a decent paying job.
2 people working is important and required.

TK's post is very negative..

"traditionally reserved for people who were born and brought up in Canada and hence you will be facing an enormous uphill task to get into your professions"

Well not true as pointed out, even if it is there are several professions that one can get into with some study, banking, insurance, social services.. etc

"All people say that we are prepared to take what ever job comes but after 2 or 3 month of hard labour job / low paying CSR jobs you will regret your decision to come here."

You may/will have to do CSR for the first 1-2 years but u will gain experience and understand culture here which is very important if u dont study and move up u will remain there all your life... You decide what u want to do. You will still have to put up with the ego of working along with 15-18 yr olds.

Bottomline,, there will be major struggles for the first 1-2 years and if u dont do things intellegently in this time the struggle will remain with you all your life... if you are intellegent you will be able to live a middle class life which is very decent..

Yup. Very true.
Decide if that is the kind of life you want.
I must also point out to you that if you donot upgrade yourselves right from day one but opt. for standard jobs like labour, CSR etc... and looking for jobs in yoru own line, chances are that as time goes by you will get a significant gap in your own line professional employment and will push your still down.
Looking forward to some positive comments for other CD's who are well employed for the benefit of the OP (with the exception of IT people).
Hope this helps
