How fussy you are about the ingredients in your food, especially when you eat outside in restaurants??
Since I have to go out of GTA sometimes due to nature of my job, I cannot have Indian restaurants at my disposal. I still am able to get some vegetarian food, but cannot vouch about the "vegetarianness" of its components
- Some restaurants may use lard for fries
- Soups can have beef/chicken broth. Druxy's makes vegetarian soups, but not sure about the broth they use to make these soups
- Cheese used in pizza/wraps/sandwiches have Renet. I do not think pizza hut might be using kosher/halal cheese
- Anything that has gelatin. I recently realised that the Astro yogurt has gelatin for texture. Even some sweet/sour candies (Smarties??) also have gelatin
- Most of the readymade desserts have eggs
Although I cannot do it all the time, I try if I can avoid buying food with animal based ingredients. Just a personal choice!!!
I am an omnnivore. My wife on the other hand is strictly vegetarian. We eat out twice a week and visit restaurants that at least have vegetarian stuff on their menu. Does she know "hearty garden vegetable soup" might contain chicken broth, yes. Does she fuss about it, no. I was floored at how well she managed herself when we were in Jamaica for 7 days on an all-inclusive vacation. She feels it is okay to let loose a little.
We know people who fuss and believe me it ain't fun...but of course as you say it is a matter of choice and if you can get what you want, and you are willing to "fuss n huff n puff" till you get it, go for it.
