Friends,
I have an invitation to a lunch party @ the Pickle Barrel next week. I have never been there before and don't know what to order (without looking lost and stupid). I am not very adventurous (with food) and stick to known food items, which I am sure have no non-veg items inside.
If any of you CDs have enjoyed VEG food at the Pickle Barrel, please make your recommendations. I am OK with most veg pizza, sandwiches, green salads, pasta, rice, noodles..as long as there is no meat content (pieces or gravy)...
Thanks.
Hiren
The easiest way out is to call the restaurant and ask what options they have for vegetarians as the online menu does not allow you to know that. There is bound to be a veg pasta dish and a green salad . If not, ask if they will make you a pasta dish without the chicken in it.

Pickle Barrel is one of the worst places for a vegetarian. Most of Canadian restaurants like Kelseys, Caseys, Montana, Jack Astors, Swiss Chalet have a couple of options for vegetarian, but Pickle Barrel haven't learnt from them.
I think the only option available is a vegetable sandwich with some cheese. Some of the ingredients they use already have meat/fish mixed in them and they cannot take it out. Even the waiter at one of the chain wasn't happy with my request for some vegetarian meal.
Try going for greek salad if they have one and a garlic bread. Then get a rich dessert to fill you up

and the menu only lists the main ingredients, not the sauces, gravy, spices or the seasoning - which in many cases are made from non-veg items.

my suggestion is the pasta shitake mushroom penne and ask for it without the chicken. it tastes great. and leave space for dessert because they are very good.

Thanks Guys for your suggestions. Fortunately for me, the venue got changed to a nearby pizza place (as requested by majority, not me) - but I am grateful for all the suggestions. Maybe, I can try it when I am alone or with wife...
Thanks Meghal for the tips regarding VEG food. I try to eat within my moral boundaries - we always have the option to stay hungry or choose a different place. Ofcourse, it is very tough to exclude eggs from prepared food - we accept it when left with no other choice (for the sake of kids), but dont consume eggs directly. I do appreciate your comments though.
Others who would like to add to this thread from experience, please do share.
