Hi Everyone,
First of all Best Wishes for Deepavali to all CD members and their families.
Since its Deepavali, most of the CDs would be calling to India and incur huge long distance costs. Most of the Desi's would be enjoying G3 Telecom's special offer of calling India at 1Cents per minute during Deepavali from 27 -29 Oct.
New members can also get some free calling minutes as well by following this http://www.g3telecom.com/Default.aspx
However, I came across one more company http://www.rebtel.com/en/ which is offering 10 minutes free trial to every one who joins them by registering his/her phone number (land line or mobile).
By joining them, you do not have to pay any money and you get 10 minutes free for every phone number you register. The key is to register different phone numbers with different log in user IDs to get the extra minutes and NOT by registering all numbers under one user ID.
However, at the time of registering phone and creating user ID and password you can use a 'special code' India60min in the Voucher Code place and you will get a total of 70 minutes of free calling to India. Hence, if you have 2 phones or more (land line and mobile etc.) you can create 2 or 3 different user IDs and will get 70 minutes free calling to India for each number registered.
How this works as that for calling to India, you will register the number of your friend in India and Rebtel would allot you a local number, so whenever you call that particular local number from the phone number you registered, it will ring on the phone of your friend or relative in India and it would be a local call for you, which is free in Canada. You can add a number of contacts in India by putting their phone number and Rebtel would allot you local numbers for your contacts.
I have been using this service for the last one month totally free (by registering 4 of my numbers with different user ID) and the call quality is crystal clear. Moreover, you get all the call details in virtual time over the Internet and they charge by the 'second' and not by the 'minute' like all other companies do.
They also have a promotion where in till 1st November, 2008 if some one becomes a paid member by using at least US$10, he/she would get double the time. That way the cost to call India would be less than 4 cents per minute.
Please use this https://www.rebtel.com/en/Utility-Pages/Join-flow/Join/?code=India60min and the voucher code would come there automatically.
The instructions on the website are quite clear and I hope every body would enjoy lots of FREE CALLING to INDIA during this Festive season.

Thanks for the Rebtel link. I have only 10 free minutes instead of the 10+60 mins. Maybe that was a limited time offer. In any case the service looks interesting to me.
I am also going to register the other way - India to Canada and recharge in Canada.

Airtell call home has good offer if one recharges for $5.
I haven't tried this but as per the link it's 3.25/min for 5$ and 3.99 > $5 recharge (+ TAX)

I just now got a call from a telemarketer, by name Samir ...... who says that they have an office located at 62 Yonge Street, in Toronto. Their rates for local is one cent and the other rates are on their web site. I could not recognize the address and hence the hesitation.
Web link: http://wishacall.com/Calling-service.html
He says that they are upgrading their website with their address. I am waiting for that. Untill then....
Can any one confirm?
Thank you in advance.
HAPPY DIWALI.
Freddie.
