One of my friends told me about Airtel Long distance. Also I saw their ad in some ethnic news paper so I opened my account with $25. First of all their website is soooooo slow that it took me almost 20 minutes just to open the account. Anyway, then I tried calling the toll free number to make call to India and I got the response: All circuits are busy. After trying for about 10-12 times, I dialed their 24/7 customer service number and guess what? same response: All circuits are busy.
I e-mailed them and explained the problem and asked for refund of my $25. I got an automated reply that someone will get back to me within 24 hours. Even after 48 hours when no one responded, I tried their 24/7 customer service and this time I got the message: YOUR CALL CAN NOT BE CONNECTED. PLEASE CHECK THE NUMBER.
I e-mailed them again and asked for refund. It's been over 2 days and I am still waiting for any response.

I had been using Reliance and G3 telecom for 3-4 years and I was quite satisfied with their service. Pata nahin, kyon Airtel ke chakkar mein aa gaya? Mere $25 to gaye par bhai log, kum se kum aap apne bacha lo.

Thanks for the Rebtel link. I have only 10 free minutes instead of the 10+60 mins. Maybe that was a limited time offer. In any case the service looks interesting to me.

I am also going to register the other way - India to Canada and recharge in Canada.

I think India to canada does not work...presently......or does it ?

Hi Sanjeeve,

Sorry to see that we also get caught in a bind some time. Thanks for airing it.

Here is what I came across about Airtel and the process for settling a grievance with them. Since you know most or all of the details and the transaction, I would urge you to go through the links and the process detailed here and see which route to follow to get the sum back or get the required services for which you volunteered to join.

Either way, I Hope you come out winning.

Please keep us posted as to the W5 in this situation.

Good Luck.

Freddie.

You are right.

It seems presently you can not register from India to Canada.

However, I am pasting a link for some one's blog which will give you information on REBTEL and some other providers and I found this very informative.

I found another company where you can register and get up to 40 minutes of free calling to India. This promotion may be available only till 12th November.

Please use this company for making free trial calls only as their regular rates are much higher and hence are not advisable.

Pramodji,
What is the guaranty that these sites are not going to misuse your personal information you provide while you register for free calls? We end up giving lots of personal information just lured by the free calls, which we won't otherwise give away other places. What do you think?

You do not have to give your personal info.

Just use any email address which you do not use for personal use and if you do not have one, please make an email address which you should never use for personal emails. Then create a user id and a password and enter your newly created email address where in they will send you a link to confirm your email address. Yes, you will have to put a phone number which you will use to make calls.

That's it. So, no other personal information except phone number is to be given and you can use the service for free.

So, its individual's choice to use this free service.
