Folks,
Imagine my dismay when I was told by the Fido cust. rep. that calling toll-free nos. are taken off your plan's airtime minutes. Also, calling toll-free once your plan's airtime minutes are exhausted, are chargeable as long distance calls (35 cents per min.). How weird that 'Toll-Free' isn't toll-free in reality!
I do not know whether it is common knowledge here but I came to know of it very recently. Got charged 25$ for around a 70 minute call while calling the comwave cust. svc. toll-free no.
This is truly a rip-off & a cash grab by the telcos as Fido insists that it is the norm with all telcos in Canada. Never heard anywhere else about getting charged for calling a toll-free.
Any similar experiences?
Yup. That's how cell plans work ... as you are using the wireless infrastructure for your "toll-free" call. The only exception to the rule seems to be calling the company's customer service number (611) which is truly free.

I just switched my line to WIND.
For $20 / month, I get:
Unlimited Canada-wide outgoing and incoming from any WIND zone
Unlimited North America outgoing texting anf unlimited incoming texting from any WIND zone
+ call waiting, call forwarding, call display, v/mail etc.
Now how does that soundand that too not a limited time offer, it's for life.
