That is a pretty cursory advice. You need quite a substantial amount of money to do the masters program. (University fee + living expenses) Also, what are the job prospects after a Canadian MCom degree

If you can invest around two plus years in CMA(certified management accountant) program, your prospects will improve. This qualification is equivalent to ICWAI of India and I believe they can sign off a balance sheet. But you'll have to work those two years in accounting/audit field to pass and get certified.

I believe the CGA/CMA route is also quite lengthy and expensive. The advertisements that they put up are quite alluring. But I attended their sessions and found out that being a CGA/CMA is not that easy

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership

Can you give a realistic timeframe for clearing these qualifications?

Thanks in advance.

You do get credit for your education.
Depending on your education, say from India, if it's BComm, MComm or CA, it could be anywhere from 2.5Yrs to 4-5 yrs.
(Example, if you are a CA from India, it will take about 2-3 yrs to complete remaining exams.). Obviously, it also depends on individual.
Get an assessment from the institute. It costs approx $200-300 (for CGA). But you'll exactly know what credits you get and what all courses you need to take. You will have better idea. For approximation, consider 1 or max 2 courses per 6 months.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I was suspecting it would be something on similar lines. I think I would go for the US CMA. Less structured and easier to complete. Although, it may not be as official as Canadian CMA.
