I do not argue with the idea of studying at university. But it is not "everybody's cup of tea", especially if you have a family to take care - doing part time job and taking care of kids and spouse. And I am talking about university degree - not community or private colleges

Quote:

If you do not have money then beg, borrow or steal from friends or family and work part time in labor jobs but definitely join university or do a professional certification .

And be up to head in debt by the time you are out of university and spend next few years getting rid of the debt. Again, university is not a bad idea if you have financial resources

If you are going to make Canada your home. then earlier the better.
I will have to agree with loser. All of us immigrants have to go through a settling period and the earlier you do that the better.
If you want to study and have no money you can seek for a student loan.
The best decision I made in Canada, was to go to the college by taking on a student loan. And believe me I had a large family.
This student loan was returned back in no time by gaining a highly paid job after my qualification; all this because of my studies in Canada.
This recession time is a wonderful time to gain some more knowledge. University fees for Canadians and permanent resident is well below, than anywhere else in the developed world. We have international students clamouring for Canadian universities paying 5 to10 times more in international tuition fees.
My time in educating myself in Canada was no stress on my health. I found the education standards in Canada excellent compared to the colleges, I have been in the UK.
Most people from India err by taking up any jobs available and then getting stuck doing these jobs all their life. Later on they keep on complaining.
So please seriously think of this study option. Final decision is yours..

The US spiraled deeper into recession to start 2009, forcing widespread cutbacks and layoffs among everyone from blue-collar workers that once churned out construction equipment to white-collar professionals like business consultants and accountants.

The Federal Reserve's new snapshot of business activity nationwide, released on Wednesday, showed the economic picture darkening over the last two months and revealed little hope for a quick turnaround.

"National economic conditions deteriorated further," the Fed's survey concluded. "The deterioration was broadbased, with only a few sectors such as basic food production and pharmaceuticals appearing to be exceptions."

The Fed also has said it will consider expanding existing relief programs or come up with new ones to extinguish the worst financial crisis since the 1930s.

Just wait and watch as there is very Little hope for quick improvement in US economy which is the engine of world economy.

Keep well,

Until next time cheers!

There is no substitute for higher education. the other option is get a heavy Driving license and drive those big long trucks for days . Then you can make big bucks like some desis in Brampton.

Hi CD family,

Our Canada immigration papers are through...hurray!!!! Thats my first thought, but there is a global recession :-(( Is this the best time to relocate????

Let me give some background of our family. We are styaing in Dubai at present.I am from a banking background with 5 years of exp in the Indian market.I have always been in the retail dept of the Bank and so had a lot of customer interaction. I have not worked since my marriage(2 yrs) as we have a 15 month old son. I want to work full or part time in Canada. My husband has been in Dubai since the last 9 years in the Telecom sector. he is an electronic engineer. he has 5 yrs of indian exp too.

We know that Canada is a land of opportunities but one has to work really hard to achieve it. i have read a lot of the post on Cd and so know that canada will be a big challenge for us.

Given the global recession, we would like some feedback regarding what we must do, and how we must go about it. Is this the best time to come to Canada???

Thanks
jigcy

Hi, Im too in Dubai and if you dont mind, can you tell me when did ya apply? Im still awaiting my papers.

Cheers
