Hello All,
First of all i would like to thanks everyone who has been contributing to this very useful website. I am happy to post my question here and i am sure i will be guided from the best of the best.
My immigration application has been approved, i have received all the papers and my entry into Canada is due OCT 31. However, i am planning to enter Canada via CAR in SEP first week.
I have been working in USA for a while and would like to do so for a bit more, before i completely move to Canada. I am taking a week off my work to take care of my responsibilities in CANADA. I understand that it is not enough time, but this is the best i can give and i have to make the best out of it. (Alternate suggestions are welcome).
I would like to know about things i should be taking care of as i enter Canada and things is should be taking care of while i am there for a week or so. I understand that the PR card is mailed later and it may take a month sometimes. I would like to ask, has any one been lucky enough to get the card on the border ?. Please share related experiences with me.
I appreciate everyones input and wish you all best of luck. Special thanks to Massood for his amazing help all the time.
Regards,
Absy

Hello Sukh and All,
I understand that it may take upto 30 days to receive the PR card. I cannot get more than a week to spend in Canada. I was planning to enter anyways and have the PR card mailed to my relatives house. Later as they receive the card, they will hand over it to me in person.
I know there is a risk involved, but i want to hear from friends who have been in a similar situation.
Also please share with me the things i should be taking care of during my weeks stay in Canada, before I immigrate permanently.
Thanks for your input.
Regards,
Abrar
hi there,
People usually give friends address and they can mail it to you or hand over to you.
I don't think there is any risk as people have done it unless you don't trust your friends .
I'd recommend that you apply for SIN # as it takes around 3-4 weeks so that when you return to Canada for good later on you don't have to wait 3-4 weeks for SIN in order to work.

one word of caution:
some people had to come back to Canada at very short notice because cic asked them back for retaking photograph [for PR processing]. It is not common but we have had several clients in this situation.

Hey..I had just the same situation in April 2004 when I landed in Canada. I had to come back to USA in 2/3 days. I got PR card in about 30 days. There is a change in rule for SIN application recently. You need to show your PR card for SIN application, so you cannot apply for SIN when you arrive there.
About PR card mailing...well the Canadian immigration officers at the Niagara Falls border told me that I can re-enter Canada (from USA) without PR card.So if you are not comfortable about ur friend maining you the PR card, you may drive to Canada again after a month to get the PR card fom your friend..
hope this helps...
Hi Sunanda and rest all,
Thank You so much for your reply.
Yes you are right, i was reading the website http://www.cic.gov.ca." rel="nofollow">LINK It tells that you do not need a PR card for entering Canada if you are travelling in a private vehicle. Please follow the link below for confirmation.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pr-card/prc-issues.html (Please read QUESTION #17).
Q1) Mr. Massood, would you please validate this information on the website.
Also, on application for SIN card, i think it really depends on where you apply. I applied in Toronto and they did not asked me for PR card.
Q2) I am in Canada now, i have applied for SIN card and opened a bank account. Is there anything else i should be doing ?
Q3) I want to keep my US license for some more time, is it a good idea to apply to G2 in Canada or should i consider it when i move to Canada later ?
Regards
