I agree with simmi72. I had applied for sponsoring my husband in August 2008, and we are still waiting. We had received a passport request in December and until now we havent heard anything. When we tried contacting the Canadian High Commission, we were told that our file is pending background checks. My husband had been to Canada on a student visa, and many other places; therefore, I believe he is currently undergoing certain background checks.
Considering I (the sponsor) am in India currently to spend time with my husband, do you think me not being present in Canada and not working will in anyway hamper the processing of PR?

Hi,m just wondering after knowing abt ur husband application status...means u have submitt ur passport n now it has to b three months,m shocked...its too much time..

well can u please tell me how dey contact u or u contact CHC?coz in my case dey use to contact me over phone.i passed my interview on 6th fab dey keep my passport wid dem sayting dat my visa is granted.after dat i recived a call from CHC on 12th fab dat dey need to know my residence addresses of middle east...the visa officer said to me dat he vl call me after 10 min but he called me on 5th march, after 25 days, inbetween i E-MAILD dem provided all my addresses..

on 5th march he called n said dat he recived my EMAIL today n now my file is going 4 pastchecks.i asked him abt d timeline but he answered dat dese pastchecks vl b done by thirdparty so v don have any idea how much time dey vl take...

so now v don have any option i guess..v have to wait n watch.rite?

but i have a request whanever ur husband got his passport, let me know..
regards
simmi

It is my humble opinion that one who is sponsoring must be here in Canada while the processing is going through. That is the first check. If you are not here in Canada, then they throw the sponsoring application out.

So, Please return back and write to them to tell that you are back to keep the process still in good standing.

Hope this helps you a little.

Freddie.

Freddie are you serious that they would throw out the sponsorship application if the sponsor is out of Canada? If it is true then they could have listed it as one of their criteria for sponsoring, right?

I wonder why they would they do something like that, I came to India after submitting the application, since then everything had gone smoothly. But the only problem is the passport is stuck with them for more than three months.

They have even sent back our wedding pictures which I was told is a positive sign as it means they consider the marriage genuine.

Anyways I am really confused as to go back or not, since I dont understand the connection between me staying out of Canada and them granting a visa.

I am really happy to receive such good response from you guys, thanks a ton.
Surely Simmi, I will let you know when my husband gets his visa.

The criteria is listed on the CIC website. What Freddie probably stating is, the sponsor has to be living in Canada if the sponsor is a PR. If the sponsor is a Citizen, then the sponsor must provide assurance they will return to Canada to live. If you are the sponsor and you are visiting India on a temporary basis to stay with your husband until his visa comes through, I don't think there is a problem. However, if you are living in India, there might be. Hope this clarifies.
