Dear Friends,

I would like to share that my wife application has been refused.
The reason mentioned is - marriage is not genuine..
Im shocked.....

My timeline is as :

Application sent to CPC mississauga - 18 Dec 08
Letter received from CPC mississauga - 6 Jan 09
Processing started in CHC New Delhi - 21 Jan 09
Interview appeared - 9 March 2009
Refusal Letter received - 26 March 2009

Reasons for refusal---
-- never met my wife before giving consent to the arrangement
-- No too much gathering in marriage. Marriage was not celebrated with much pomp and show.
-- In marriage photographs sponsor appears to be serious and disinterested.
-- wife dont have any idea of sponsor's income.

I will have to go for appeal....
What are the other options available for me....

thanx
 :(

I do not agree with M_R by a distance . There are common arranged marriages where people have not met before ... no where has he mentioned that they did not talk .... plus a spouse may not know about the income of the other spouse which is reasonable .

I think an appeal would be the best way to go and try and get more proofs like notarized statements of people who attended the marriage in photos stating it to be genuine .......... Though Embassy Officials know about prevailing customs in the country , since there are a lot of 'concocted marriages' taking place esp in a particular region in India , mistakes can be made by the Embassy officials as well .

That may be a personal feeling but I can say with confidence that even today 50% marriages take place in India where the spouses did not get enough chance to interact before marriage --- that does not mean they are not valid .

I know thats not the answer you are asking for..but seriously?

I agree with Fido - what kind of stupid response is this?
On what basis are you judging that the marraige is one of convenience?
On what basis are you claiming that the person does not know the woman he is married to?

Are you trying to show off the fact that you are born and brought up in North America?
Arranged marriages are quite common and bride and groom haven't spent much time with each other before marriage.
That does not make the marriage one of convenience.
This system work out well for the majority of people.
With your Western-style live-in marriages and divorce rates, you can hardly claim to be an expert on validity of marriages, now, can you?

There were instances recently when fake marriages etc. came to light. This may be an over reaction based on new guidelines. It is generally up to the individual councellor on interpretation.

It may be a good idea to prepare your spouse thoroughly next time. She should definitely know more about you. Your date and place of birth, your academic background, your work experience and salary, where you live, what you do.

Consider these standard questions and prepare accordingly. Get a civil marriage certificate too. Get letters from prominent people or professors, lawyers etc, attesting to your good character, your spouse's good character, and the solemnity of marriage.

One other thing you caan do, send photographs of both of you taking trips together, spending time together in public places. Even if this means making a trip to India to do that....good to meet wife in any case.

Also, remember, if you are in shock, so is your wife. Call her regularly, re assure her and be positive.

Get a letter from your local MP here. Do WHATEVER it takes, but get the evidence ready quickly. Use your shock to act....

Remember, YES YOU CAN get together. No true marriage can be denied!

Good luck!
