I have been asked to submit together the passports of self, my wife and 2 kids who are 23 years old by the end of this month in buffalo for visa stamping. My son and daughter are in professional colleges in USA and are not in a position to accept the canadian immigration for at least 1-2 years. We all are Permanent Residents of USA but due to a death in the family I had to decide to immigrate to canada. I was told that I have to apply for immigration of the whole family.
My question is can I request Immigration canada to postpone the immigration of my kids for now or the kids will loose their immigration and will have to apply afresh in future. Can I avoid the stamping of their passports when I go personally to buffalo. Please help me
I assume your kids are as dependents on your PR application.
I would suggest get PR visa stamped for everyone and then you have 2 options:
1. You and your wife land and the kids simply forgo their PR.
The primary applicant needs to land first - there is no requirement for dependents to land with them, or land at all.
2. Kids complete their landing and after that come back to USA.
They may decide to move in the future (subject to the 2/5 years residency requirements) or choose to forgo their PR.
You have already paid for their application and done all the formalities, why let it go.
Hope this helps

Hi koihai,
I completely agree with pratickm. If I were you I would go for the option 2 that pratickm has suggested. No questions asked that there will be few expenses involved but worth to do it. Complete your landing with your spouse and kids and let the kids go back to usa to complete their studies.
Also, when you are in Canada they can still come to meet you guys from states - whenever they want to come without any hassle.
good luck with everything.
Hello thanks brother , but I want to know is it necessary to submit all the four passports for the visa stamping. The kids don't want to submit the passports for stamping, and risk their financial aid and hassle during crossing border every time. So if they are not willing to submit their passport ,what should I do. How can I explain the buffalo office about this . Please advise as the dead line is approaching. Thanks
By stamping the passport with visa stamp and accepting canadian immigration ,the kids will be risking their green card status. Their long term goal is to selttle in usa and not canada. hence they don't want to submit their passports. is it possible the buffalo office allows only me nad my wife to get canadian immigration at this stage and let the kids off. or will they insist on all four passports to be stamped together. How can I explain them the situation.
Hi koihai,
Could you please explain how ur kids green card process or status or financial aid for their study will be affected by accepting canadian immigration? These are two different countries and have different rules and regulations so what's harm in getting canadian immigration?
May be i am not clear abt what u trying to say, plz explain more.
If you want very specific answer you may try calling CIC - 1-888-242-2100 and see if you can get your answers. However this number will only work from Canada i guess, still now harm to try out.
good luck.
