Amazing discussion.

I do not want to sound sarcastic. But it feels like many of us trying to pin a tail a donkey blind folded.

The discussion should be based on information available after Obamification of the States and not during the Bushification of the United States.

With the impending devaluation of the US Dollar are you really going to be saving enough ?.

Please note that by 2032 that is next 23 years the US of A will be LATINO country like our own GTA and many other locations in Canada will be BROWN.

The times of high job growth, pay rates are times of past and there is levelling happening on salary levels.

It is well established fact that Medicare and Social Security are officially broke and you will not be able to Pension by the time you retire.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While many a highfliers have flown away like flies back to India, your choice of immigration should be based on solid research and not on past memories.

Today's USA is very different than that of June 2008.

Please make a trip to USA and find out on yourself than trusting word by mouth information. Every company has reduced its workforce and what are your chances of obtaining a safe and high paying job. What is chance that they will sponsor you and keep you for the next 5+ years for the immigration to be completed.

As you were born in India, you will be always under the Indian \"Queue\" and not on the Canadian \"Queue\".

Please start all your discussions with H1B visa for a Green Card.

Q1.Why is that the H 1B filings which used to close on the day of opening previously is still open?.

NewsFlash! H1B Cap: Slight Change in Count, May 22, 2009
Updated May 27, 2009; 8:45am (ET)

The USCIS updated the H1B cap count on May 26, 2009. The new count is slightly higher than that of the past six counts. The USCIS reports that both the regular and advanced degree caps remain open. The most recent count includes all cases received through May 22, 2009. As of that date, the USCIS had received approximately 45,700 regular cap cases. They had received at least 20,000 advanced degree cap case, but continue to accept filings in this category, as the USCIS does not approve all cases that are received.

Please read about the recent happenings in the H1B processing changes including the level of scrutiny happening.

Please read with a magnifying glass the terminology governing EB 1 , EB 2 and EB 3 classification.

I donot want be throwing a spanner into works but just cautioning on the issues relevant as on today.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The advantages on being a Canadian citizen are:

1.You can travel freely for a job interview.
2.You can obtain a TN visa(provided you have the necessary background/degrees/paper work).
3.You can always fall back to Canada on the process of losing your job for safety.

The link you post shows that

Use this column if your taxable income is more than $77,664, but not more than $126,264

so the Federal tax rate is 26%

and then for ON its 11.16%

But What's your point here?
I guess everyone knows that US have lower tax rate compare to Canada.

and this is a huge difference if you are making 6 figure income.

Again, if you in your old age and have pre-existing conditions then Canada is the best place for you.

-- My point is to show you the correct CRA web site and the right rates in contrast to your tax related discussion.

-- That's exactly what I was telling right from the beginning (if you read my post on Page 2) - the US is like "the survival of the fittest".

Yes, but TN to GC is a little tricky. Talk to a lawyer beforehand and he will tell you the intricacies.

Yes, it i tricky and that's why Lawyers always tell you incorrect things (like the H1 is essential to initiate the GC process). Therefore, it is better to educate yourself than to blindly follow the lawyer's advice.

It's true that things are gloomy right now. When it comes to moving countries, it all boils down to personal preference and priorities. I still prefer to live in the US and will never come back to Canada.
