I heard about this news too. I tried to search about this news, but could not find anywhere. However, as per your link, the source of this news is PTI. Where did PTI get its news from?

I searched on google news US, but it led me back to PTI.

This seems like one of the news item, that is supposed to make feel good about ourselves. But overall, it does not carry much weight.

Just to share a personal experience on this topic.

When I was a college student in India, I used to have this neighbour(middle class) and they had two young kids, who used to be at my home most of the time. Many of times when we guys used to play cricket they used to pick up the ball or be the wicket keeper or do similar stuff.

They were in middle school later and they were quite hardworking.
As they came from middle class their dreams were to get a government job in India(as the father used to work for GOI while the mother used to work for the local Sales Tax office) and settle in India.

I was surprised to hear from one of the kids last week after a long absence of nearly 16 years that he is in US. I thought as a typical Desi he might be on a trip from a SW company working on a project.

Later on when I looked up his profile I was pleasantly surprised to find that he is an Assistant Professor in one of the state univerisities of Michigan in the field of Mechanical Engineering. His education was a M.S; Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from Rhode Island and a Post Doctoral position from Caltech, Pasadena.

Definitely the growth of this kid from a simple lower middle class family to the extent of being a Professor in US university is phenomenal.

As they say in old western movies, The Injuns are coming!, The Chinese are coming.

The future is very clearly BRIC:Brazil, Russia, India and China.

You did not get my point. You are still measuring that kids success by his position in a US university. You are still using developed country as a scale of success/failure. Would you consider him as a successful if he was a professor at REC/IIT/Indian university?

The concern should be not about Indians taking American people's job. But as a nation, how long has India has to go before it can be considered developed nation? There are so many social/infrastructural/political plaguing Indian and other developed countries - and immigrating to US does not fix that problem. It may be the people of Asian origin that may be doing better in US university, but they still have to look at US for their career. That really does not put Americans at worry.

And when you do a %wise breakdown of "successful people" v/s unsuccessful based on country of origin or race, you will find that numbers are same.

And while India/China are progressing, do you think that developed countries are just going to stand still and do nothing about maintaining their status and standard of living?

India is booming today but becoming a developed country will be a challenge due to the following problems:

1. Population of India is approx 80 times that of Ontario alone and its area is only 3 times. Due to such a high density of population, what would you expect the quality of life will be.

2. In many states of India (Including Punjab), people queue up for procuring drinking water. The day is not far when this problem will become very serious and nobody is caring about it.

3. Will it be easy for India to provide enough food and health care services to its one billion people.

4. Foreign reserves will drain very quickly when India has to buy energy from other countries.
