Cannot express the pain, short lived but unexplainable.
In the middle of the night I got a calf cramp and was jumping on the bed. Did not know whether I was sleeping or awake but could not stay laying down, finally when I put my foot on the ground the pain was subsided, still have a dull calf pain.
I researched the internet and states to do some wall stretching exercise. Has anybody has this before? What causes this? how do I avoid to have this in future?
I get those too/had them in the past.
I went to a physiotherapist who helped me reduce them quite a bit. Stretching, keeping the legs warm at night and having Calcium (with Vitamin D added or a tablet of vitaman D to bring out the effects of the calcium).
However I took 1000 mg of calcium in fizzy tablets (available from costco). it helped within 2 days.
Now I find yoga or stretching really helps. However if you do wake up with calf pain here is what you can do (what i do):
stand up quickly and carefully. the leg that is cramping lift it slightly andb put your heel down, then your toe. So walk a few steps heel first then toe. that should stop the cramping. it will be sore so try to kee;p your leg slightly bent for a few hours (ie for the rest of the night).
walk a bit until the cramp subsides. always heel then toe. try to avoid walking on your toes till the cramp is fully gone as it will return with a vengeance.
This is my tried and true method..i've had these since age 14 however calcium and yoga and stretching make them extremely rare now.
if you are lying on the floor and it happens and you are unable to stand up due to pain then start moving your toes rapidly (manually or just like that) until you get enough relief to stand up. then stand up and do the other exersize.
