My two cents: In Canada, I do not see this happening considering the job market there.

A nice aspect of LinkedIn are the professional recommendations that you can add to your profile. You can request recommendations from those in your network and also recommend people. If you have build an impressive profile, with great recommendations and are in a profession/industry or have skills that are in demand, expect to get recruiting agencies in touch with you.

I have been on LinkedIn for over three years and have over a dozen Canadian recruiters contact me through the site or directly at work after seeing my profile. I also had a few US, European and even Asian based recruiters contact me.

Bottom line is that is a great networking and career tool if you can effectively leverage it.
