I wana hear that as well...

I added the negative points, u please add positive points and that will help me to update my knowledge.

some are:
superior health care with no cost or next to nothing cost
high standard of living that everyone can afford no matter what you make (preferable if both spouses work)
good education for children as well as good day cares
sound basic infrastructure e.g. highways, heating, cooling, lighting, home essentials

I only agree with "heating, cooling, lighting", the rest you have mentioned are not true.

I don't know who told u that healthcare, education, living standard is best. These are best only on papers.

Canada just have only 35 million people and out of those 5 million don't even have their family doctors. They are in queue and no doctor is taking them.

Even in 10th standard, students feel handicapped when they r asked to do basic Math. They r nowhere without the calculator. How can u say that education is best where root education has so many problems.

If u still think that I am wrong then try to calculate how much price u pay for these (Your taxes,GST/PST blah blah..), Considering that u own a house [Which u never even after u paid your mortgage, there are some expenses which u bear for your whole life), u bear 6-8 different types of expenses for ur whole life.

If u calculate, u will find more than 60% of the people live here in debut in your so called developed country.

One word - compare this to the healthcare in USofA. If you think what we have is not good (not saying best), then it's a nightmare in States. Please watch 'sicko' by Michael Moore.

Who says, you can't excel in life if you use calculators? You want to say that Canadian born and educated Engineers, Doctors, and other professionals don't know what they're doing. Just because they need calculator to add/subtract. No puns intended, but you sound as if Canada is at par with a third world country.

If you pay your mortgage, that's one of the biggest expense write-off. Fortunate are those who pay it on time. Which other country, or that matter India doesn't have your '6-8 types of expanses' your whole life? Don't you pay property tax, income tax, electricity bills (which only comes to life 2-3 hours a day in summer months), water, cable, car, maintenance, patrol/gas, grocery, your kids' education(takes lakhs to get admissions even in KG), and what not. So, my dear friend you can't be saved from these 6-8 different types of expenses in any other country as well...

True, but have you calculated how many Indians, Americans, Aussies, Europeans are living in debt, either credit card, home loans, car loans, study loans (these days) etc.? Are you aware how many farmers in India are living below the poverty line due to the ever growing debt? In Indian metropolitans, it has also become a norm to buy evreything with credit card. Personal line of credits are so hip these days. Here's a link FYI:

Ok, this topic has been done to death as well. Let's stick to the job market as mentioned by OP.

Web2000,

With so many negatives for Canada, did you leave the country and go back to India or may be immigrate to some other country? Not trying to argue with you. Just a genuine question.

This topic has been diverted to showing how terrible a country called Canada is.

Anyway do not read too much into such news Prabhu. It is negative news and will easily stick to your mind. 7% unemployement also means the rest of 93% are employed.

People are getting laid off but at the same time people are also getting jobs in different fields, some after going for some training or education.

I can't resist pitching in my share of thread hijacking. I think Canada has no positives. Take for example (just one, I promise) the storm water drainage on my street...the damn water always drains perfectly, depriving my 3 yr old few puddles to jump around. Those engineers with stupid calculators...damn them.

On the other hand, where my parents live (I'll let you guess the country they live since this is all about Canada...), the ditch the civil engineers directed and built is about a foot from the street surface. Somehow, over there, water is believed to climb up the walls of the ditch and fall in.

Anyway, that ditch design has been bothering me for a while and I am glad I got it out.

Please don't waste your time arguing my post...it's just meant to be humorous (although what I stated is facts).

unemployment, currently at 8.4 per cent, will average 8.7 per cent this year, compared with Flaherty's estimate of 7.5 per cent for 2009. Page sees the jobless rate going as high as 9.4 per cent in 2010

worse-than-predicted employment picture means that actual total job losses in 2009 could go as high as 530,000 (Canada's population is just 33 million)

But Page says job losses next year could be as high as 700,000

Let us all CD's come together and share our thoughts so as not to be affected by this recession / gloomy forecast.

Statistics are meant to be manipulated for/against our favor. Having said that, we all know the job market is extremely tight. For example, in the US, the latest figures are, around 15 million people are looking for work.

I think we will see a turnaround mid to late 2010 (just my 2 cent prediction). For people looking for work, it might be relatively easier to find if they expand the geographical preference to nationwide.

I know several individuals who lost their jobs in metro Detroit and Windsor continuing to seek opportunities in the same area. That is suicidal, in my opinion. Of course, they may be restricted to stay there for various reasons, but suicidal, nevertheless.
