While coming back from India, I have about 8 hours of waiting time at Amsterdam. Do you think it is possible to get out of airport and do some sight seeing? Are there any hassles getting out of airport and checking back in.
Has anybody done it before? Anything to be kept in mind?
What's your nationality?
You may or may not need a visa.
Most countries do not provide on-the-spot visas.
That said, 8 hrs. is not really much.
I have flown KLM several times and by the time you get out of the flight from India, freshen-up, pick up your luggage, factor in the 3 hr. reporting time for your flight to Canada, you have only 3 - 4 hrs. max left.

Why don't you take a break and have a connecting KLM flight at no / very less extra cost ? Take a break for a day / 2 ....
I think I read on charcha some where that Canadian PR s heading to Canada can get an 'on arrival' visa if they are destined for Canada ..

Fido.
There is a booth on the airport where they arrange tour of the city. Ask there or check online.

Also there is a Casino and a massage parlour in the airport. There used to be a brothel but i think they removed it.

You could get out of the airport if you are a CDN citizen or hold a EU visa.
Check Schipol airport website for current updates.
Amsterdam city tours are available from the airport.
Its a small bus with a driver cum tour guide . You get to see
the windmills, a wooden shoe factory, canal tour by boat and a
few other city sights. Give youself 4 hrs for the tour. The bus does not
leave until about 4 people sign up.
Self serve storage lockers were available for a fee to store cabin baggage.
It saved me the hassle of tugging my carry on luggage.
Schipol airport is bloody expensive, but is not too big.
