The other alternative is the Tube ...... Hope this helps . We stayed at the London House B&B around Kensington <=GBP 50/- and a stone's throw from the Tube stn.

fido sir--just a general question---Do they give transit visa to canadian permanent residents at the heathrow airport if the connecting flight is after 8 hours so that the person can go out for sight seeing for 8 hours??? Do they refuse also at the airport or do they give transit visa to all canadian permanent residents ??? Do they charge any fee for that ???? Thanks in advance

It depends on immigration officer, for me they stamped for 24hrs and did not charge any fee. If you are there and want to meet someone, just try.
