"Who cares if the personal info. of people in India are compromised"
I definitely do!!! Here maybe it is just a credit card opened in your name but there it may be outright theft! It is far easier to pull off a crime in India than here. And we all know that it is EXTREMELY difficult to get any problem straightened out over there. Do you really want your folks dealing with the cops?
Maybe nothing will happen. Maybe I will get free photos delivered to my house and that will be the end of story. But then I weigh benefits against risks.
Without any risk I can send email with photos to my folks who can download and print them at any internet centre for a few rupees. Or to make things even simpler for them I can print the photos at futureshop.ca for about 19 - 29 cents and mail them for about three dollars...Total about 5 dollars. Do I want to take a risk for 5 bucks?
NYD,
How are you sure that the guy at future shop is not secretly selling your pictures to the mafi gangs of Italy or for illegitimate purposes to thailand? through an agent in USA. There are reasons to be cautious but not like this. Who will want to misuse your pictures when there are tons of pictures on the internet.
I really canot understand.
Remember that our kids are more likely to be abused by volunteers at school, scout club, camps etc.... These are people whom we trust most.
So sometimes you need to think Rationally NYD!
Thanks
TK

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
Employee theft at Futureshop is far less of a concern because of the DIFFICULTY in doing the same. Futureshop will be aware of the damage that such an action by an employee could do to their business. They will be having internal controls.
A dishonest employee will find it easier to just steal credit card numbers than to steal a photo and try to make money off it. Each credit card could net him at least a few thousand dollars. Why should he waste time on a customer's personal info?
Individual employees are RARELY the problem if the business is sound. When a business fails the bad employees feel free to take advantage of the situation and abuse the trust placed in them.
And as I keep repeating , we need to balance the risk with the reward. Day to day life has it's risks. We can't remain locked up at home just because there may be danger outside. But at the same time we wouldn't jump in front of a subway train to retrieve a dollar. Free services might be great but are they worth it? As Seema70 puts it 'They must be making some money somewhere'. Don't you wanna know 'where' before using them?
Definitely we have to calculate risk & rewards ..... thats why I am saying again that this freepostit.com service is not for very Private or personal matters which need privacy... this service is just a pure play service to keep in touch with your loved ones...which in one sense is really good for people like us who are leaving so far from our relatives in INDIA.
About this service making money - I guess they are sending Ads with their mails.
This company should be legally registered in USA to do business therefore all laws about personal information protection applies to them... which are very strict in US. So this company can't gain anything by doing something illegal.
Well ... it was very construtive criticism .... Now how about we discuss the good things about this service.
Sorry typo.. I mean to say ... we are living so for from our relatives..
